Counting down the hours. Heading back out again tonight. Mule deer are starting to move into the unit I have my permit for. Getting excited for that as well!

Timber free are burning right next to my stand. Adapted quick and shifted to spot and stalk mode. Just flu d a group of about 6 bucks and 10+ does. Going to do some grunting to see of I can't pull something in. Can also see two other bucks fighting in the distance

Deer were not interested in my grunting, should have brought my rattling antlers. Watched a group of four bucks take turns on eachother. Rut is just around the corner.

Decided to move back to my stand and sit it regardless the fires. The deer in here see a lot of human interaction. Never know where they will be. Besides, I'd rather be quietly in my stand than potentially blowing deer out of the area.

    1) I enjoy Fitz's journal and I'm going to be hunting up in MN next year (hopefully). My girlfriend's parents live there and I'm wanting to get a bear or wolf (if I'm lucky enough to get a tag, which I know is highly unlikely). But it's fun to see the area you are in Fitz and your experiences in the woods...but...
    2) I'm even more excited see this journal because I've always had a major desire to go out west and hunt, it looks like I'm going to have to start saving for Montana or Colorado. My dad as been to Colorado and North Dakota for elk and turkey and he has described the land and hunts to me but this pictures are beautiful and are fueling my desire to get out there and hunt the elk, bear, mule deer, etc...

Thank you for starting this journal and I look forward to see what kind of brutes you can get this season. Best of luck!

Thanks for the kind words! Feel free to PM me with any questions to help you get out here :tu:

Made it out last night, was a total downpour and I was unable to keep you updated! Deer were moving like crazy, got to 50 yards on a doe four times but could not get closer for a shot. Will be employing my bow mounted decoy next time!

Tomorrow will be spent with my wife trying for her first deer, will more than likely have Sunday to myself, though.

Getting ready to head out. Me and Stephanie will sneak up to a wooded ridge that the deer are using to cross in an open clearcut.

The ridge is mostly comprised of ponderosa and no underbrush, perfect. Hope to find us a good spot to sit with a good rest and wait.

Really hoping to get her one today so I can sneak out tomorrow :tu:

Home now. No stalkable deer today. Did see one nice buck, though.

Have a serious monkey on my back this year. Need a serious change of luck soon!

Got desperate, bow has changed colors and is completely blacked out ("murdered out" for the cool kids). Maybe it will bring on a change of luck?

Going back out tomorrow, undecided on whether i'll sit on the doe stand or go try to rattle/pattern some bucks on the other end of the property.

Hope that change of color will be good for you.

I vote you go to the doe stand. Just a gut feeling that you'll take one out if you hunt there.

    Good luck :tu:

Second best thread I have ever read! (would be best if not for Fitz!)
This is so different from what I see on a stand!

    Love it....more pics please!
