Well now that the gun season is over here in Wisconsin I can concentrate on the bow again. I was lucky enough to get a doe down during gun season so I have meat. I also was able to share the deer with my 3 year old which this is the first year he has been old enough to really understand what is going on.

Translation? The pressure to get meat on the table and be able to share a deer with my son is now gone even though it was a gun kill. Kids that age don't care if I hit it with the truck, shot it with a bazooka or threw a rock at it..... they just want to touch and see a harvested deer up close and hear the story.

I have time yet to get a bow kill. Jan 1st or Jan 31st (depending on what zone) and 99% of all hunters are are now done for season. The hunting pressure will be way down. Food will start to become scarce once the snow starts flying.

Just need to implement my late season strategy and get a little lucky.

Anyone else not scored yet but feel optimistic for late season?

Sure do! I am normally able to knock down a doe or two during the late season. We have muzzleloader right after firearm season, so it usually takes until about mid December for the deer to calm back down. Last two weeks of December can be pretty good with the right weather. Season ends Jan 1st here.

I'm a big fan of late season hunting in the snow.

Brad - Good Luck - stop in and give Team 9 some updates on your late season hunts.

I actually enjoy late season the most - very few hunters and deer start grouping up again. Even the big boys will be back up on their feet when the cold snap hits...

I'm not liking the late season as much this year. I've hunted twice In temps around 5 degree's and didn't care for It much either time. I'm not 100% for sure but by the sounds of It a very nice buck that I've been hunting was shot yesterday In our ML season by the neighbors. Kinda took the wind out of my sails a bit. Going over to look at It around 4ish to see If It's him or not.

During our regular gun seasons lots of 2.5's were shot around here too. Just like I figured It was going to be It was a buck slaughter fest this year for the gun hunters. Kinda sucks. My attitude Isn't all that great but I'll be out there trying anyway.

Brad, bow season runs until Jan 9th this year in the non-CWD units. You bet I'm jacked about late season. Got a lot of good bucks running around here yet in WI and I never hunt here until late season.

Also, don't forget you have to wear orange through next Wednesday.....ML season is going on.

I actually have to wear blaze all the way through Dec 12th because we have the anterless gun hunts (old Zone T) here that weekend. But yes, I made note of that.
