I am sure a few people will think I am crazy for even thinking about this, but I am tempted to use my back tension release for hunting this year. Anyone out there hunt with a back tension?

I shot a back tension for years for 3D and Indoors. Never hunted with it though.

Why would you want to shoot it for hunting?

I don't see it having any practical application in hunting situations. You need to be able to control the instant of release to be effective on game in my opinion.

Personally, I am way more consistent with it. I catch myself "punching" the trigger otherwise. I have tried my best to break the habit, but really only the back tension prevents me from doing that.

That is a good point. However, with my release I am familiar enough with it that I can control it pretty dang close to the instant. I am still leaning towards my thumb trigger for hunting, but wanted to see what everyone thought. Appreciate the feedback.

Bottom line, you have to do what gives you the most confidence. Second guessing will cause panic and poor shots. Go with whatever feels natural to you. Try some practice sessions with "speed" shooting for those quick shot opportunities and see how it goes. Your instincts will tell you the answer.

I can't see using it for hunting either. But that is just me.

What other release do you have? Have you tried a thumb release?
I ended up selling my back tension and basically use my thumb release in the same manner as a back tension. However, you have more control as to exactly when it will go off.

I thought the notion was crazy until I saw a video of Levi Morgan using one. I talked to some of the people I do target archery with and one of them uses a back tension. I am a big time tinkerer so I spend WAY too much time thinking about this stuff...
