Back stop ideas please, in busting arrows like crazy. I have an idea with a pole across two trees with a carpet draped over, is that a good idea?

I use the carpet thing as well. Holds up in weather and gets the job done with stopping arrows with just a few layers if it makes it through your target.

I always heard mother in laws worked great in that situation. Being single I never had a chance to find out.

I have hat bales with carpet behind it very loosely. I still have missed and buried arrows to the start of the quick fletch.

Shooting arrows into the shooting ranges rubber berm trap has made me desire making a smaller version at home with same shredded rubber idea. Even at 15 yards I'm getting only about 9 inches of penetration into the rubber and no arrow issues at all...slides right out like butter...

Why exactly do you need a back stop? Are your arrows blowing through your targets? I have been shooting for years in my yard and have never had a back stop behind any of my targets.

I'd like to make a backstop too. Especially for those longer 70+ yards shots.

Ty, that's an interesting idea. Let us know if you do it.

When I lived in Iowa we made a big back stop at my buddy's house...I got a bunch of foam blocks from a local hardware/farm store, they sold small utility trailers "to haul lawn mowers, atvs, etc.." and they ship those trailers stacked on a flatbed trailer, so they put these foam blocks between the trailers to keep them from scratching each other...I got like a dozen of them, stacked them up, then wrapped ratchet straps around them and cranked them down....Worked really well. We used to shoot out past 100yds all the time out there so it was nice to have a back stop.
At my house in South Dakota I set a couple 2"x4"s in the ground and then put a heavy rubber mat "made for a garage floor/work area to stand on" between the posts..It'll stop an arrow but they are a pain to get out.
