I was out for an all day sit today. I'm after a large buck I call "Jr." I was in a ground blind I put up close to a bedding thicket that I believe he beds. I stay out of there all year and only sit the edge of it during rut. A heavy used trail is 32 yards in front of my blind. I sprayed some black widow doe in estrus on the trail. It was 2:40pm and the sky was getting black so I was looking at radar to see if it was going to rain. I had only looked at my phone for about 2 mins and when I looked up there was "Jr." with his nose berried where I had sprayed. I dropped my phone and grabbed my bow. When I was coming to full draw he looked up and seen me move I think. He was quartering to me. I put my 30 yard pin on him and shot. I think I hit a little back. Just then it started to rain hard with bad thunderstorms. I waited about 20 mins but wanted to go check my arrow and look for blood before it was washed away. My arrow was broken off with about 8 to 10 inches off the front and was laying about 5 ft from where I shot him. There was no blood at impact and I seen one little drop about 20 ft from where I shot him. I didn't want to take a chance at pushing him so I didn't look any further. The hard rain would of washed all blood away anyways. So I think the best bet is to back out and wait. Should I go out and look tonight or wait until the morning? It's been almost 4 hours since I shot him. I think the shot might of been a little back with a quartering to shot. So I am thinking best back side of 1 lung but most likely its a liver shot. What would you do? Pic of: "Jr."
Just wait til daylight. No sense in taking the chance of jumping him. Blood will already be washed away. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
My vote is to wait until morning. You can't do anything but make things worse by trying to follow a washed away blood trail in the dark. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G935A using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
Get help and walk every inch you can from point of impact, my biggest deer to date had no blood I looked for 4hrs before stumbling on him the next morning. I would agree liver at best bet and takes a while to expire. Best if luck and keep us updated.
Hopefully you waited till this morning. He will most likely head to thick cover near water. Good luck!
I found him... he only went 80 yards and it was a little bit of heart and the end of 1st lung. A real good shot for a quartering to shot after all.
