    Or stand I should say....

Season opened yesterday, but this afternoon was my first chance to get out into a stand.

I had my spot picked out at work this morning with the given wind direction. There is a very steep hill that has a trail running in the middle of it and then another at the bottom where a bunch of points run out into a standing corn field. On these points are numerous oaks dropping acorns, so I picked the point that is directly below a heavy bedding area. My theory is that any deer heading to the corn field would stop off for a few acorns before moving out.

Well I got my stand set up and was sitting in it right at 3:30. To my surprise I was somewhat cold. It wasn't long until I remembered why I hate squirrils so much. As time passed I wondered where the deer were. Right before I get ready to tear the setup down I catch movement to my left. I grab my Switchback and get ready. CRAP....it's a coyote. Oh well this guy has a Montec headed towards him if he gives me a shot. He comes in at 15 yards and turns broadside behind a small, bushy tree. I come to full draw and he only needs 1 more step and he crosses my entry.....and he's gone.

Oh well I'm back at it again tomorrow afternoon on a different property. Just felt good to be back out there.

So close. I take every opportunity I can to whack coyotes with my bow. So far I'm one for one at shooting and 1 for 3 at almosts. :p

Scold me if you will, but I only need to see a little of the yote and the arrow is loosed. All the caution that goes into shooting at a deer is the right opposite with a yote.

Well your 1 is better than my 0 for 4. I have only been able to sling one arrow at one and it was about 40 yards off. I think it was out of the area before my arrow ever got there.

I always said if I got one on the ground and he had a good cape on him he was getting a full body mount in my man cave.

That's what I did Scott. I've shot 3 coyotes, only 1 with the bow, 1 with a rifle, actually the last shot I took with a rifle back in the late 90's and one with my shotgun while spring turkey hunting. Made him sorry he busted my gobblers. :D
