Got home from DC last night at 10:30 and wanted to be in the stand this morning but must have been tired as I slept through the alarm. Wife said she turned it off after 5 minutes of ringing. Sucks to get old (Insert emoticon w/cane).

Got in the stand this afternoon and right at sunset 3 shooters came out. Had one behind me and two to the right. The one behind me crossed the fence and went towards the two on the right. One by one they hit a scrape on the neighbor's property and then headed into the corn field that finally got picked over last weekend.

I'm still sick about the bruiser that we couldn't find, but still have tags to fill.

Going out again in the morning.

I live in DC, and I bow hunt the surrounding area. We are being over run with deer, and some are huge bucks. Too bad you didn't bring your bow.

This morning, 2 rooster pheasants and a small 4 pointer. Oh! and colder than expected with the wind howling.

    Rickmur,

I hunt the Potomac suburbs, by the C and O canal. Montgomery County is having such an overrun that the police are shooting 1000 of them just to try to thin the herd. Figured I would give them a hand.

Oh Crap! Give me a freaking break!!!! Had a 10 pointer at 22 yards on the other side of the hedgerow. He stood there for 10 minutes looking for does on my side. When he didn't see any, went the other way. That's 4 shooters in a 24 hour period but none close enough to release.

Good things come to those that wait IV.
Nick, you have contacts in Potomac? Wow. That place and Mont Co are full of tree huggers. I just lost my spot in Mont Co due to them. Be glad to help you out if you need it. LOL.

I saw crows, turkeys, pheasants, owls, cardinals, woodpeckers, blue jays, squirrels, and rabbits. Too bad I was supposedly deer hunting this morning.

yeah, they're tree huggers until all their wives azaleas get eaten. Then they want the deer gone.

True, so very true. But thier first thought is "can you just catch them and relocate them to somewhere else? Then they say Bowhunt? Well that's very cruel, I think I will go down the local hail salon and get all the clippings and spread them out. True story.

Yeah, I'm not surprised by that at all. In all honesty, I don't think anyone knows I hunt the area I do. My father in law owns a house with a wooded lot that backs up to public woods that run down to the canal. I technically hunt on his property, so no one can say anything about it, but I'm sure if word got out, somebody would try to say something about it. The two neighbors know I hunt it, and they have asked me to kill every deer I see, so I don't think they'll spoil the party.

Went out scouting this morning after not seeing anything yesterday. Out in the picked corn there were 4 bucks and I don't know how many does. The bucks were checking does and 150 - 200 yards out there was a big buck that stood w/his back hunched up. When he walked, he wasn't using his right front leg. Due to the moisture in the air I couldn't tell for sure, but it's possible that it could be the buck I shot 2 weeks ago?....I don't know. He headed off onto a 40 acre piece of land I used to have permission to hunt before it was sold to a bank for back taxes.

Thanks Brother! The more I think about it, I am pretty dang sure that the gimped up buck I saw this morning has to be the one I shot 2 weeks ago. Now, I have to figure out how to finish what I started. He isn't moving fast and I hate to see him suffer due to my shot. I am tempted to go into that property after him. I have to review the Iowa Code to see whether or not I have that option.

Keep it up Iowa Veteran, sounds like you have been hunting your ass off and keep getting short changed. Your time will come. I hope you get a crack at a good buck, even better would be nice to get another crack at that buck you hit a couple of weeks ago. At least you know he is still alive.

Last night saw the gimped buck through the spotting scope and he is NOT the buck I shot. After that nothing until literally seconds left in shooting light when 3 bucks came out of the timber to the east and made their way towards me. By the time they got within shooting range I couldn't see the pins thus legal hunting hours had ended for the day. The wind was howling and I was a little chilled from sitting there for 3 hours. Woke up this morning to an earache. I decided to not push my luck and stay in. I looked outside and there were clear skies and no wind. I am pissed I am not out there, but I know if I push it, my health will get worse and screw me up for a long time.
