It wouldn't surprise me If It wasn't a monster pike that did that.

A buddy of mine has a Beechcraft Baron so I had him fly us up to Baudette, MN and we got a ride from the resort from the small airport there to the dock in Ontario where they picked us up by boat to the island. What would have been an 11 hour drive turned into a 2 1/2 hour flight.

Looks like a great trip Dave! What island were you on? What camp?

The marks on that walleye are from a Northern or Muskie. There are some big muskies in LOTW, many 50"+. Got any pics of the Northerns with marks on them? I have seen a lot of big northerns in the spring with their tails banged up pretty good from spawning.

That picture of me holding a nice northern has a big gash in his back about 3/4 of the way down. We did see some giant muskies while there. They were just starting to come up and cruise the shallow water along the grass/weed lines. I was three feet from one that looked to be pushing 50". He looked like he was 5" across the back. Just a huge fish. We had two of them bite off tube jigs while fishing for bass in shallow rocks. We did not spend any time fishing for them, but that will be my goal next time up. We were catching the pike out in deeper water and the muskies seemed to be going into the more shallow bays. I took my father-in-law and he did not really enjoy trying to throw a baitcast reel and heavy plugs for musky. So, we just did not chase them. I would love to though.

I am not much of a fisherman but a trip to Canada to fish big northern would be a blast. Glad you had a great time.

Thanks guys. Hooking those big pike on light spinning tackle is a lot of fun. We just used 50lb mono for a leader and caught all of them on the light gear. The big ones peel off a lot of line and it makes for some tense moments. Great fun. You have to try it to appreciate it.
