Just got back from a buddys house from scoring his buck for him, 138 and some change. He had been chasing this buck in archery season and ended up shooting it mid Nov with his bow at 15 yards from the ground. He heard a very loud thwak when he shot it. The arrow snapped after inpact and left 5" inside of the buck. He watched it run off, stagger twice, fall down once and stagger back off. after waiting for some time and after a not so good blood trail that went sour, he gave up. He ended up seeing the same buck several more times later but with no shots. Well today he broke out the ML and put him down at 80 yards. During caping it out the 5" of arrow was found inside. It had hit (not in the shoulder) but glanced off the back edge of the shoulder blade sending the arrow toward the bucks rear. It has got my attention enough to be concerned how close I will shoot to the back side of the shoulder blade. Thought this might save someone else from some grief. The lung was not touched at all.

Interesting Dan, thanks for sharing that.

And if he glanced off the shoulder blade, I'm assuming he was also high. ?

I should have known you would catch that :D Yes he was, He admitted he had changed his sagging wisker bisquit out before the hunt for a new stiff bristle one and was guilty of not re sighting his bow in. He said the hit was 4" higher than he wanted. He came home, checked his bow and readjusted. I gave him a scoulding and a DUH! for doing that. :D

He was below the spine a bit. It glanced bad enough that it was just basicly laying at a bad angle facing towards the rear. It caught no vitals at all but looked very nasty inside (alot of trama) I cant figure out whay the deer fell once

I've always wanted to kill a buck (or doe, I guess) and find something like that inside him. :)
