He's been playin again Here is what I have been playing around with, it's under my little make shift oven Hopefully it will work out and I will use it on the first of the Hybrid's I am designing:d
Joe. I have my fingers crossed that it works out, if it dont then I will be :d My lips and fingers are sealed for now Steve. Just playing with an idea. Oh see my response over on the other place
Ok I think it's about time I let the cat out of the bag or should I say my new limbs from under the bubble wrap:d I still have to rip them lenght wise down to about 1/8" then run them through the drum sander to taper them. The woods are Yellowheart and Makore with a sliver of Canarywood to take up any kerf left by the bandsaw. There is still some epoxy on the joint but the drum sander will take care of that.
Steve. Yup I am very satisfied with how they have turned out. Thanks Joe. No they are not the actual limb but the veneers for the limbs there will also be Action Boo and Glass in the final make up:d
Zach. Depending on whats involved in making the bow, like laminated riser, type of riser wood as some woods have to be sealed. But usually anywhere from 36 hours to over 50 hours. It usually takes me longer than others because I make all my own laminations the only stuff I have to order in the the action boo and glass
Dave. Too long but not long enough:d Here is a full view. The join will be mid limb the line at the top of the Yellowheart will be the finished lenght, for an overall lenght of 66". Have the other pieces in the mini heat box.
This may sound dumb, but what will keep the joint from being weak and snapping at some point in time.
These are going to be veneers that will be under .040 clear glass with 2 pieces of .060 action bamboo for the core. The size of the veneers are going to be roughly .060 parallel for the back and .095 with a .002 taper for the belly. The bamboo and glass are all parallel's Is that now as clear as mud:d
I am gonna print that off and study it for a little while. I will be back. So what you are saying is that that particular piece in the picture will not be taking that much of a load when drawn back??? Eithe way its cool as heck.
Zach. That is correct the back and belly veneers are mainly for looks. Your not that far from me you should come on a road trip one weekend and I can show you the head aches and happiness of bow building. For that matter I will even help you build your own bow
Here are both of them all done ready to rip length wise. As you can see they will be reversed when the bow is put together ie on the back Yellowheart towards the tips and on the belly the Makore will be towards the tips or visa versa depending on how I feel on that particular day:d
