tree rat season starts today in East Texas. might go sit tonight to see what i see for sunday. hope to have a doe on the board sunday.
opener is TOMORROW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sitting for about an hour before I have to leave for work. we will see what happens.
Hope I make it out tomorrow. Was suppose to hunt today in NY but been having bow issues. Hope I can have it solved in the morning and in stand at night. Not looking good, but well see.
No luck this morning. all the deer were in the other field. Hope they walk thru tonight. Sunday there is no work so will be sitting until the packer game.
Im ready to go...rain is not being nice. Theres a thin long band of rain running south to north on the radar and Im just so lucky to fall in that. Figures. If it doesn't stop in about a half hour I will just go and pray I don't get sick. Its cold, 42 degrees and steady breeze. So might be a mistake to try. But I already missed a day, and cant go again until Tuesday night.
I had a doe, I think the same one I missed last week, come by my blind this morning. She didn't present a shot opportunity though. She just mosied out of sight in the wrong direction. I tried the grunt call to bring her back but no luck.
Just a spike and a doe for me today. I wasn't in the market for a doe today but she didn't offer a shot anyway. Of course the spike stood 10 yards quartering away for 10 minutes. Figures lol
Well I'm hoping to have 50 points on the board for us later tonight. I shot a doe around 6:00. I thought I center punched her, but the arrow told me otherwise. It was a pass through, but the arrow had stomach matter on it. I picked up a decent blood trail, but decided to back out. I'm going to give her 4-5 hours before heading back out. I did see a nice 130" 8 point across the field at about 150 yards. It looked like he was going to be come my way, but he changed his mind. He was basically downwind of me so it didn't surprise me. Anyway, wish me luck on my recovery.
Found her! She didn't go far at all. She was only 20 yards from where I originally stopped trailing her. I guess I didn't realize she was quartering to and that's why I got guts on the arrow. The photo shows the entrance wound. The arrow entered right behind the shoulder. She couldn't have died Ina worse spot though. I had to drag her through some pretty nasty thicket.
Nice job and congrats! That's a nice looking deer. I was hoping to go out for a while this morning but it didnt work out. Maybe tomorrow's luck will be better.
sat Saturday morning for 2 hours. nothing. wanted to sit Sunday but forgot my release at work on sat. saw 4 does and a big spike Sunday while working in the yard seeing i couldnt sit in the stand.
I've been seeing quite a bit. No good shots at does so far and not the right bucks have come by yet. Just got pulled the cam earlier and the 10 point we had last year returned and is thicker, didn't gain much as far as inches tho
So it appears that the patterns have shifted with the dropping of the acorns. most of the deer I have had in the area are now traveling in the morning on the other side of the Property were there are many more Oak trees. They are traveling in my area were there are better bedding areas. Looks like pm hunts for me for a while.
Been hanging back from hunting since I shot my doe. It's killing me but trying to wait to get closer to November and some rutting activity and then going to his it hard to make up.
