Anyone on here successful in taking a Coues deer with a bow in AZ during the rut? Looking to knock that off my bucket list. I have bought points for Coues but would like to try the OTC approach before burning my points. Just looking for general tips/tricks. The only experience I have in that type of environment is archery hunting Javelinas and Hogs in west TX every other year. We mainly hunt water and wait.
https://forums.bowhunting.com/threads/arizona-coues-fun.95083/ @Scott/IL did a great write up here. He posted on the forum as recently as this past fall season. Try to hit him up, he's always responded to me. Also, THP did a couple episodes on Coues and also if you can get past the flat brims; the Brah squad over at HUSH have done some quality Coues episodes.
I have hunted OTC in AZ many times. Your tag is going to be good for a fork antlered deer, so either mule deer or whitetail. The biggest difference during the late season is going to location. Mule deer will on or near the dessert floor in the late and coues deer will still be near elevation that has heavy cover. Water is always an option to sit on if you can find and verify that it being used regularly by coues during daylight. Your best bet is spend time behind good optics and get a feel for where your seeing bucks then set up accordingly.
