G'day guys, I'm a deer newbie and need some advice!
I have booked myself in for an axis deer hunt in charters towers next year, and as I have only ever hunted the asianic water buffalo and hogs, arrow choice has never been a thought other than easton FMJ DG's, so I'm in a spot of bother about what arrows to get for deer! I've been advised to keep my arrow as light as I can, between 420 and 460 grain for the axis deer as they're expert at ducking arrows. Ill be putting Helix 100 or 125 grn heads on the front of them, unless you guys can convince me that something else will perform better.

Ill be shooting my Mathews mr6 for the hunt, set between 70 and 80lb.

Any advice will be appreciated and taken on board!

Id say stay with FMJ's with shooting a MR6 these bows seem to like a stiffer arrow, but i would go with the 300's @12gpi or 340s@ 11.3gpi and turn the bow down to 72 to 75 lbs Depending on how heavy of an arrow you use. I use FMJs 340's@ 28'' with 100grain head with my MR7 at 72lbs and its smoking fast and has alot of punch.

I would stay heavy from your set up it is smoking fast. What is your total arrow weight, and do you know your speed

I would imagine he is some where around 600 to 700 total grains depending on arrow length and and if hes using the 15.5gpi or the 17.2 gpi FMJs. And being that kinda setup it might have a heavier insert.

Well you see I haven't got the mr6 yet, it arrives next week, tragic event about a month ago on the drive home from a remote hunt saw the loss of my z7xtreme, so I don't know the speed as of yet. so I'm more looking for a starting point. I have both the DG 250, 17.5 Gpi and 300 12GPI FMJ models in ample stock in my collection, my usual arrow weight is 850 grains. So by the sounds of it you guys definitely think stick with the 300's? That would mean I would have a total arrow weight of about 500grn give or take a bit when I put 125 grain point on, which I am thinking will give me a higher FOC and better accuracy?

I would stick with the 300's for that setup and 500 grains will be more than enough and as going with the 125 or 100 grain i dont think it would make a ton of difference as long as your foc %'s are somewhere around 12ish or more.

I was considering the CE maxima reds to reduce the weigt a little bit, from pictures of the property ill be hunting on it is very open ground and my guide told me shots of 50 yards plus are not uncommon so a lighter arrow will be easier to shoot, and these arrows are supposedly good for bows up to 92lbs, any thoughts?
