What a great weekend for a youth turkey hunt , couldn't of asked for better weather , and the birds are working like they had read our script . Had 4 kids show up , from all over Missouri , for our 2nd annual MDS Youth Turkey Hunt this year and we're having a blast ! So far we have 3 birds down and 1 swing and a miss . Then there is my poor daughter trying to hunt the same property but she's handicapped by having to hunt with me , the technologically disadvantaged one We arrived at our blind 30 minutes before first light and after getting into the blind , I took my phone out to see if I could figure out how to put it on silent and decided to wait till it was light enough to see what I was doing . Of coarse we started the morning off with a big ol tom hammering at our decoy's from 60-70 yards away . As soon as he hit the ground and started coming our way , I received my first bird down text and the gig was up . I handed my phone to the daughter then and had her put it on silent , shoulda handed it to her to begin with , she coulda done it in the dark blind without any problems . We have 2 hunters left and they should have a pretty good chance to fill their tags this morning , I'll let you know how it goes . I'm just about wore out with all the blind setting , getting everything ready for them , all the cooking and cleaning after they get here , and trying to get out and hunt with my own youth hunter . I already can't wait to get to do it all again next year
