Leaving the house this evening I knew it was going to be a good hunt. It had rained most of the day and really cooled off. On the mile long walk down the ole grown up cole mine road from many many years ago there were new scrapes and plenty of new rubs on the way. Nearing the end and where last week I found some big scrapes and some very nice rubs I paused to peer into the woods at the larger rubs onlly to be greeted to more Big rubs! 200 yards later I was in my tree stand hung there 2 years prior. It was a little different now since some of the Pines had taken a beaten from some storms this last summer and it put me in the open a little more than I like. I had already picked a new tree to move it to when given the chance. 1 minute in the stand and a Doe had already made it under me at 15 yards :) startin out good. Then nothing for a couple hours until a little Button Buck shows and feeds forever. His momma finally showes herself in the thick brush behind me and as she fed I caught movement behind her. Buck, decent Buck, a High narrow 8 point with good tine length. I had already decided I would pass and turned down a broadside 34 yard shot. I now loose sight of Momma and Buck is behind some small pines and geting closer. He comes into the open and I think, holy crap what was I thinking. He was a 130 class 8 and thats what I was looking for. He is going to pass on my right as im facing my tree, I still dont see Momma and button is under me. I move my Bow for the shot but my safety strap is on wrong side of my head. I slowly try to move it over to the other side when Momma catches me. She was right under me behind tree. They bolt and he stops and im now at full draw and on him at 18 yrds but there is a 3 in limb in my way and I couldnt shoot, he trots after Does. Deer win I loose!
Now the History lesson begins. I here Deer aproaching behind me again and all I could see was the back and butt cause a small pine behind me has its head covered. I think probably a Doe but it finnaly shows its self at 12 yards and its another Buck. It had a very Chocolate Rack, crab claw on right beam and the right G2 was developing a split at the tip. There was a slight palmation on the right beam where the G2 came off it, I determined it at around 115" and 2 years old, and let it pass. After it walked off Im thinking why does that look very familiar? Then it dawns on me, If some remember the Buck I killed 2 years ago that I had the matched sheds from had spread some genes! This Buck was him to the TEE but 2 years younger. It was also chocolate brown, had a right side crab claw and the year of the sheds had a split on the right G2. The next year was all the same but bigger and the split turned into a huge split with slight palmating on the beam. This Buck hasent figured out how to snap his brows off yet like his Dad
With 10 minutes of shooting light left another Buck crossed in front of me at 50 and With his fram I knew imediatly he was a shooter. In a nut shell I sucked big time tonight judging a Hugh bodied Buck that I should of had. Just thought id share that with ya :p

That is a great evening!!! It's awesome to see what these deer pass down from one generation to the next. The first shed I ever found was a half an 8...decent rack but not huge...this was 9 years ago...last year I found a shed not 100 yards from the spot i found the first one and it is almost an exact replica of each other.

Won't be long until we see those fingers wrapped around another big buck. The rack may pale in comparison to the fingers, but oh well.:poke:
