    I havnt seen it,

But IMDB has it at an 8.7/10 and ranked as the 34th greatest movie of all time.

Heres the real shocking numbers though:

$430 million at the US Box Office, 7th highest of all time.

$1.3 billion at the Worldwide Box Office, 2nd all time.

Behind another Cameron film of course (Titanic).

First Terminator 1 & 2, then Titinic, now Avatar. What could he possibly do next?

I haven't seen this movie yet either, but the more people I see that like it, the more I'm tempted to go see it. I don't really like that I'll have to pay 11 bucks to see it in 3-D, but maybe it's worth it?

Go see it in 3D. It's worth viewing for the visuals.

    But that is it.

Without the special effects, this would be a below average cartoon.

I saw on the news this morning some people are experiencing depression after seeing the movie, and realizing they can't live in "Pandora" as it is portrayed in the movie. They are so depressed there's apparently forums popping up on the 'net for these folks to get together and talk about how our world is bleak and grim compared to Pandora.

    Unbelievable.

Lol, maybe I shouldn't watch it then... ;). But really... how hard is it to realize that it's a science fiction movie, therefore completely fake and made up.

It is kind of a depressing movie actually if you give a flying fart about the environment or the history of our country, which I would guess everyone on here does. I am far from an environmental whacko, but it does make you think. Special effects were simply amazing! Best ever by far. Worth the extra $3 for 3D. Yes, the story was predictable but it was decent and the special effects more than made up for it.

Another issue revolving around this movie is one of race b/c the white "savior" helped the poor ignorant natives (seriously that is almost word for word off of a story on msnbc.com). They are saying that it wouldn't have been racist if it were a black hero. I think that those people may have missed the point of the movie entirely, but hell, that would probably make me a racist to say that.

I haven't seen Avatar and will probably wait until I can get it from netflix. And at the rate I get movies watched.. that will be about 2015.

I used to be mildly annoyed at 'And Then a White Guy Saves the Day' type movies. ;)
I'm mostly over it now. I have a few white friends and they're not all bad. :D

I believe Ridley Scott did the original Alien and Cameron did the follow-up Aliens.

Kind of agree. Storyline was def. different, but the script wasn't the best. I have an old college buddy who put it best. "Avatar is a 2 & 1/2 hr eye orgasm."

    Alright guys,

How many times have each of you seen it?

1.6 Billion after 6 weeks. Thats insane.

It took Titanic almost 40 WEEKS to reach 1.8 Billion

Ive only seen it once, but everyone i know has basically seen it once or twice. Ill probably go see it again later this week.
