I am looking at purchasing a four wheeler or side by side. I have a buddy that has a 2007 rhino660 2200 miles for $6400 after working him low as he will go. He has taken good care of it(I know how he treats his stuff). But I still don't know about it, I am now too educated when it comes to atv's. I am needing it for hunting mostly and doing some food plots, but also to work a little around the house and drive to the pond which is about a mile or 2 and also for me and the wife to go trail riding some in the fall and spring. This is absolutely the most I could afford but don't mind at all getting a four wheeler for a little cheaper on the pocket either. I would love to know what you all thinK! I have considered rhino, ranger, polaris sportsman or atp, yamaha grizzly, but am up to any other suggestions. I dont have to have new either, I actually will not purchase brand new. I don't mind a 2000 model if it is good and does the job. Thanks.

First thing try and decide if you want a side by side or atv.

I have a kawasaki mule and just love it. Its a work horse and is super quiet and smooth. I love the bed on it as it really helps work. If you need speed then this is not your machine. If you want a nice riding workhorse then a mule may be your ticket. I know Greg really likes his side by side yamaha as well. Personally I am very partial to the side by sides if you want to do work. But that is just me.

I would have to agree with BJ, you have to decide what your main goal is for the machine. I have a 4 wheeler (which actually belongs to the kids) and side by side and I like the side by side alot better than the atv just because it is more versatile. I have an ez go st 4x4 with electric dump bed on the back and it does a great job. It does not get you there fast but it will haul what you need. I use it to haul my seed and fertillizer for food plots and use it to haul my stands in when I put them up. It is also a comfortable ride for 2 or 3 people. It will come down to what you want to use it for but IMO it is hard to beat the side by side (utv).

I agree with Brad that you should first figure out what you want in a machine. For what you have listed as priorities it seems to me like that you are a perfect candidate for a side by side. There are lots of them out there but finding a different one at that price might be tough, especially one that you have previous knowledge of. I have a Honda Rubicon and my dad and I bought a 2008 Rhino 700 last fall. They both serve a purpose but I'd say we use the Rhino 95% of the time for most of the jobs you have listed. I think that is a pretty good price if you can get your buddies for that.

Appreciate the input, I have racked my brain for almost a week now on what I NEED. I might Look into the ez go and mule also. Badger, how is your rhino holding up? I have heard good and bad feedbacks on them. Thanks again.

My rhino is holding up great. Knock on wood. The only drawback, if I can call it a drawback, is that it is a little noise inside the cab. It does get a little warm in the cab as well but that is nice in the winter. I am honestly thinking about getting rid of my atv as I feel like it's just going to sit while I use the Rhino. Here is what mine looks like.

Thanks ultramax but I will have to pass, don't think it will fit where I'm going. That is a sharp rhino you got there badger, like the add ons. Don't they make a silencer for the exhaust or am I mistaken?

I am heading tommorrow to buy the Polaris I mentioned above. It will do me good for now I believe, and maybe in time upgrade to side by side.

Do you guys leave your ATV's in the woods and walk away or park and walk only where you can stay in site of the vehicle?

Depends where I'm at rcowan. What are the chances someone will come into the woods? Private or public land?

Out here it wouldn't matter private or public. We have lots of "travelers" heading north.

A little advice from a lot of experience

    Hi, new member here.
Immense experience with Rangers (bigger SxS) and 4whlrs. I am, among other things, a retired farmer.
If you are hunting elk do not diddle around, get a Ranger. Front, rear and roll bar mounts for a moveable winch are a must. Been there done that. Besides, your wife and the kids will love you.
If you are a deer hunter you can do quite well with a 4whlr.
Bigger SxS's track a wee bit wider than your standard 4whlr, but I have yet to see a 4whlr go places a Ranger can't. I can scare you to death with either.
    Obviously 4x4 is a must
Everyone knows a Ranger carries more beer than a quad.

    Good Luck, Pete
