I was wondering how many of you use an atv to get to your stand and does it effect the deer at all? How close to your stand do you park it? Any info is helpful
I think the real question is what spooks deer worse. I motor vehicle or a person walking. I know which one I am going with!
I would park at least a few hundred yards away.. The biggest thing would be the smell. I would take an extra set of clothes to wear on the way in and change.
If there is a chance a deer would pass where you are thinking of parking on the way to where you are hunting. I'd park somewhere else. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
When gun hunting I park right under the stand normally. The deer won't be able to really see it until you can most likely see them and get a shot. A lot of the times they come right in and it actually helps stop them for a shot. If I'm bow hunting I try to park it a pretty good distance from where I am hunting and where possible I try to park it where it may cause them to come closer to me while they are trying to skirt around it if they do see it.
Over the weekend I had a buck run all the way down the field and spent a long time around where my truck was parked. I didn't ride my ATV back this time and it was sitting there on my trailer. I have had deer walk by my ATV in the field and my truck as well. That being said I try to keep it a ways from my stand. The exhaust is smelly so I stay out of it and spray down when I ride it back. I usually stay 3-400 yards away when I park. One of the biggest bucks I have ever seen was bedded 200 yards from my ATV. I must have been doing something right that morning as I climbed into the stand 45 yards from him and saw him at first light.... Unfortunately that is where my luck ended that day.
