A virus plaguing whitetail deer herds likely has spread to more than 40 Indiana counties and at least a couple in Kentucky. But biologists say hunters and outdoor enthusiasts shouldn’t be worried about catching the disease.

Biologists at the Indiana Department of Natural Resources recently received lab-test results confirming their suspicions that the state’s deer have increasingly been dying from epizootic hemorrhagic disease, a nasty virus that can be fatal to deer.

One case was confirmed in Franklin County in July and a second case was confirmed on Friday in McCreary County.

When the dumpsters are empty send them to Michigan. 4,000 cases reported. From the local talk I would quess you could double that number. Opening day is Monday I am excited yet aprehensive.

Wow...4,000 cases? That's astronomical. Did a little research, guess the first hard frost usually puts a stop to this. Looks like the death toll seems to grow every year when there is an outbreak.
