It's not the pitching that has killed the Cards, it was the blackhole in LF. Duncan is gone, replaced by Holliday. Good luck with the wildcard. :D
5th best team ERA last I checked. Closer has 2 blown saves. The team wasn't scoring runs, that shouldn't be an issue now.
lol Last year Great up until the all star break then gone by Sept. I sure hope yesterdays 14-6 beating is no indication of the pitching gone bad already.
I noticed no mention of Pinerio's gem he pitched on Friday....you know, when Matt Holiday went 4-5, Lugo homered, etc. :D I'm sure Chicago, Houston and STL will all have their turns at first place over the next 2 months. I just think the Cards will be in first when it counts. BTW, choked last year? STL sucked last year. 30+ blown saves, Carp only pitched 3 times, Mulder's arm fell off. They were not a good team in 08 at all.
Wow.. that's funny.. I actually thought to myself what a horrible decision by the Cards. I mean.. they got rid of that Wallace kid who's supposed to be a phenom for a 1 year guy.. why? Just so you could possibly stay in first this year? Possibly. You still will likely loose to a likely Dodger ball-club. So would (did) the Cubs. What about next year? No doubt the move will help the Cards by protecting Pooholes.. but really.. was it worth it? It's late July.. things will start clicking now or not working for a bunch of teams.. Cubs are JUST starting to play better ball.. and have WAY more depth.. obviously since they've held on so long with a regular DL rotation... and POOR POOR batting all year. But they still played .500 ball.. which is scary for the rest of the NL central. I think the Cards have a good team.. don't get me wrong.. but the Cubs still beat them if they stay healthier. Simply.. better pitching.. all around. Bats will follow. If anything.. I'm pissed you got DeRosa.. I LOVE THAT GUY.. GREAT ball-player!
I love debating with you Cub fans. :D Cubs do not have better pitching. Look at the ERA's of each staff, we have a closer that has been lights out. Big Z is great, after that....you have a staff of #3's at best IMO. Minus Pujols, you have a better lineup on paper. Don't forget, the Cardinals haven't exactly knocked the cover off the ball. Glaus and Khalil Green have been injured/DL most of the season. Duncan wouldn't have started in most slow pitch leauges yet LaRussa used him every day. We have had alot of easy outs, yet the Cards have remained at or near the top of the division all year. I think this may be a great pennant race. BTW, I wasn't the biggest fan of trading Wallace, but he projects to be a DH/1st baseman,so dealing him was a no brainer. Many teams wanted Rasmus, I'm glad they didn't trade him. IMO, the only way this trade makes any sense at all is to re-sign Holliday. If he walks, it will have been pointless.
LOL Ok, I was going on pre-Friday stats....getting shelled two games in a row at Philly probably had something to do with that.
