I think it all depends on the battery life of your cam and the location, meaning is it a property not far away or a couple hours away? If the property is close than you can check it more often and don't have to change it's batteries as often. I had a property 1 1/2 hours away and couldn't check it that often, maybe once a month because of gas and other things going on, so I would always switch out the batteries and my card because of that. If your in a good spot where you are getting alot of pictures then you will want to increase your card size to store more pics and that could drain you cam down faster too depending again on the brand of cam you are using. Alot of the newer cams that run off of AA's seem to have longer battery life rather than the c and d battery cams.

Yea my props are close maybe 20min ride. I am running 3 Primos 35s and one primos 46 which at the batts pretty good the first week so I changed it to 3.1 MP and less LEDs so only time well tell I suppose. I had one at 60% so I just changed batts cause I have been getting alot of pics at that site.

Every two weeks I do a card and battery swap on my cams, no matter what the level reads. I had one of my reconyx cams drain the batteries to nothing in less than three weeks. So I am not gonna take any chances and I use all rechargeable batts.
