Wed night I smacked a giant. This was the first time I actually heard a buck roar in the timber. It had me shook up like this was my first deer I had ever shot! Shooting hours ended at 5:12 and I shot this deer at 5:08. Hard to see my arrow hit him so close to dark with it being cloudy and I was in the bottoms. Could see the deer perfectly and felt real comfortable with my shot. 20 yards. Anyway, he ran off with his tail down and I glassed him walking about 70 yards from where I hit him. He went out of view in the goggles so I thought he went down. Turns out he went down a hill. Found blood for 100 yards and then found my arrow. Looks like I only got about 7 inches of penetration. Followed good blood for a loooooong ways and then lost it when he went out into a food plot. looks as if he went in football field crp patch or toward a pond. I searched the crp yesterday and found three other deer! none of them mine. gonna check the pond area on monday. its gun season here this weekend and the deer is not on my property and there is gun hunters everywhere. the landowner said i could look monday for sure. any suggestions?

What was the sound of your arrow hitting? Was there a loud crack? What color of blood?

Found bright red blood. Trailed blood for quite a while. Good sign. No bubbles though so not sure.on placement. Found a bed where he layed for a bit. Then found a huge chunk of coagulated blood and then it went to pindrops. Heard no real loud crack. That's why I'm confused that I got little penetration. Stuck at the firehouse working from now till Monday morning. Gonna be a looooooooong weekend.
