We have free HBO, Cinemax, Encore, and Starz for a while, so the other night I was checking to see what was on, and I stumbled upon this movie. I had seen it before in a Redbox, I thought it looked good (looking at the cover, lol), because I love westerns, but I was wondering at the time why I never had heard anything about it (it has a SLEW of top name actors in it). Well, so I watched most of it, and it was...well. Odd. I never got around to finishing it (that's generally not a good sign). I tried watching it a few night later, and lost interest. The reviews of it online are astounding. Everyone thinks it's a masterpiece, and it was nominated for academy awards, etc, etc. To me, I felt as if it was a cross between an artsy/indy movie and a western. I don't know...I just can't imagine why so many people raved about it, but you heard nothing about it when it was first released. Anyways, if you want to watch the trailer to get an idea of what it's like, here it is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qp2ppYB9fDo
i thought it was decent, not great but good, but its definitely something you need to watch straight thru, not piece meal... i find stories of jesse james interesting cuz one of my great-great uncles used to ride with him... at least that is what our family lore says, my great aunt told me about it a couple years before she passed...
That's what I was thinking. I think I just need to sit down and watch it all of the way through. Tombstone is one of my favorite western's, so this is one that goes in a bit of a different direction.
