    there are dangers with any object sufficient for killing a deer. I could suppose a crossbow is more "dangerous" if walking around drawn with bolt in, similar to the dangers of walking around with a loaded firearm, going through fence, tripping, up and down into stand.

    its really hard to walk around at full draw on the compound bow for very long at least.

    also crossbow will take your fingers off or at least deglove 1 or 2 if your hand is in wrong spot.
