I'd have to agree with Brad here. It's a tough call but wish you the best of luck in your decision.

No I mean take the new Union job but still pick up some saturdays delivering mail. That way you could stay on the list awaiting full time with the PO.

In a perfect world that would be awesome, but the new job requires 1/2 day saturdays when overtime is going... and the PO requires me to work during the week if they need me.

I would see which will pay for schooling.
If it's the union gig getting you a skilled trade, or if it's USPS, won't the government pay for school? Find a field your interested in, check the status of jobs, and go for it.

That would be huge in my decision. Honestly, I would not settle for a $60k a year job. Sure it's good money, but that shouldn't be your end goal.

Look into machining. I've seen good machinists go for over $80k /year, plus, you can personally build up equipment and do side work.
The United States is going to be lacking in skilled trades for manufacturing positions. Look at Germany, they are lacking about 400k skilled trades positions. Actully, the US manufacturing is having a hard time finding unskilled labor that is skilled enough.

Don't take the easy way out. Short term sacrifice for long term reward.
Look at Phil and myself. We have full time careers, families, to do lists, and going back to school.

I agree with Indy, I would pick the path that would allow me to at a minimum double the salary ranges you are talking about.

You guys are saying to go for jobs 90k-130k.... That's unheard of around here.... unless your a doctor... I'm trying to stay realistic... I have no problem living in those salary ranges.... I've come from far less.
