The artist who painted a post-mortem halo over Joe Paterno's head on a mural featuring the late Penn State football coach erased it on Saturday following a report that found Paterno helped cover up child sex abuse by a former assistant coach. Michael Pilato said he removed the halo on the outdoor mural in State College, Pennsylvania, home of the main Pennsylvania State University campus, and also painted a blue ribbon for child abuse awareness on Paterno's suit. "I think Joe Paterno is an amazing human being. I think he made a major bad decision in his life," Pilato, 43, told Reuters in a phone interview to explain why he altered his mural titled "Inspiration" that was unveiled 12 years ago. And painting a child abuse ribbon on his suit is akin to painting the Star of David on a portrait of Hitler. Despicable mutt. The Amatuer
Also remove the Portrait.... if the premise of the portrait is to show homage to him remove that as well.
Leave Paterno alone. He made a bad decision and he will spend the rest of eternity sitting next to Sandusky (Once Bubba is done with him) in hell. And seriously, comparing Paterno to Hitler? Really??!!!
So let me ask you this, killer of an entire race (attempted) in hitler and an enabler of a child molester...you think one is better than the other. You must not have kids. Leave him alone???? would you leave a teacher who molested a little kid alone just because he was a good teacher before that. What about the registered sex offender living around the corner, took him cookies lately just because it was one bad decision. None of that is meant to be personal but if everything coming out is true, good ol joe pa can rot his old azz in hell
I agree . he knew about it yet kept his mouth shut . He could have ended it years ago and saved some of the victims . He doesnt deserve any sympathy or the "icon" status he aquired. Honestly they should take away any retirement benifits his family recieves.....donate them to the victims.
My point is he is dead. Let him rest in peace. And yes I do have kids. And whether you meant it or not it is personal. If anyone ever touched my kids, the cops better find him first, otherwise......
I think the school and everyone else that benefited should give back every cent every given by him. Even donations made by him simply must be tainted. Any mention of his name in public should result in a fine.
I agree with your thoughts, amd I am glad you understood where I am coming from. I feel for his family, now that all this comes out, he is dead and missing out and they have to get drug through the mud. they are taking the punishement for him, which sucks but seems to be more of what he was about compared to the honesty, moral, blah blah blah crap we heard for years. A few local guys on the board were on his sack saying the truth will come out and we would all see the truth and there was no way this could have happened. i think joe pa had alot of people star struck since he was "approachable"...however they are not to be found on these threads now
This just goes to show the administration either didn't believe the kids or didn't give a damn. Also take note that even the judge deferred to paterno in the terms of sentencing. RT @SBNationCFB: Curtis Enis' agent, not Sandusky, banned from campus RT @sganim: Pretty amazing story within the Freeh report
Just convict the guy, let all the civil lawsuits be finished and let us get on with life. Penn. State may not survive... but we will.
davidmil, I surely hope Penn State survives. My family and career depend on it as I went to school and work here at PSU. It's easy for all of the window watchers on the outside, reading and watching ESPN, to pass judgement. This is about Sandusky and the aweful acts he committed. This is about those in power, including Paterno, Shultz and Curly, who had a hand in sweeping it under the rug. This is NOT about Penn State as a University. I've been a supporter of Paterno from the onset of this mess. However, based on the report released last week, my view of him is very much tainted. It's very difficult for many here to grasp the fact that he was part of this cover up. The very man that was supposed to be the "moral compass" of this university was just as flawed as the next coach at the college level. Its a tough pill to swallow for many of us here. I don't fall into the class of people who thought Paterno was god or could do no wrong. I knew that his power and clout here would eventually be his demise, in one way or another. But I met him on several occasions, work with his daughter actually and know what the Paterno family was about. Thinking that he knowingly and deceivingly hid this monster, well, I can't come to grasp that he would. It simply sucks to be a Penn Stater right now. It's not our fault. It's not the football players fault. It's not the hundreds of thousands of alumni's fault. Its the fault of handful of people who allowed this to happen for so long and of course Sandusky himself.
Maybe there's just too much importance placed on football. The same goes for here in Alabama and many other states that have elevated views of college sport's stars and coaches well beyond their intended significance. These guys run around with an inflated dead pig skin for crying out loud. Your reputation is safe.
Well all know the root of their importance. Profit made by football program in 2011. Texas - 71 million Penn State - 53 million Georgia - 53 million LSU - 47 million Michigan - 47 million Notre Dame - 47 million Alabama - 45 million And on, and on...
Wait... other than archery season, what is more important than football season? I agree. I love my football as much as the next guy around here, but there has been a cult following in State College for a very long time. It was borderline unhealthy. It's a shame it took something like this to slap a lot of people back to earth and make them realize that the guy they put on a pedestal is human and maybe even deceiving.
