I m shooting fmj 340 now. they are 11.3 gpi witch comes out to 452 grains total. they fly great and i love the fmj arrows. so my question is Im thinking of going to the 400 spine they are 10.2. my arrow length is 27.5 so i will loss about 30 gains. The 340 are over spine for my setup and the 400s are just a little over. i know i will loss a little ke. But its already around 77 so thats more than enough to blow throw a whitetail. I had my bow chron at 275. Any ideas about how much speed i will gain and it should move my pins closer? so any advice or ideas would be great.
The weight should be a non factor. There isn't enough between the two that it will matter. 275 fps with a 452 gr arrow is smoking and seems like a good fit for a 340 spine. I don't know your exact setup but from the numbers given, I would be leary of a 400 spine, although I suspect at 27 1/2" long, its probably doable. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using Tapatalk
Yeah I am not sure of that would work, according to an archery calculator ( not the most accurate but it gives a reference point) you would need to shoot around 75 pounds with no weight on the string to shoot at 275, and I just don't see a 400 spine working for that set up. Again its an estimate and not set in stone or definite numbers Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
i was at the shop shooting thro the chron at 65lb with a 452 grain arrow at 273 was avg. i bump it up to 70 now. i have a hoyt spyder with the number 2 cam so my draw length is max out for that cam. pro shop said i get the most out of the bow i can. all i have on the string is peep and d loop.
A draw length in the 27-28" range can be a fickle thing. An arrow that short can be tuned in a .400 spine but a .340 will absolutely work and likely translate to better broadhead/arrow performance over all.
I'd avoid a .400 spine for a 70lbs bow, that's just to borderline regardless of a what a calculator says... Plus dropping 30grs isn't gonna make a huge difference. Stay with the .340 spine, if you want more speed go to a different arrow all together but stick with the .340 spine. I always opt for a stiffer spine on a hunting arrow, tuning field tips & tuning broadheads "even mechanicals" is a whole different game.
sounds like your current setup is the ticket. You said it's shooting good. I don't think 340 is overspined for your setup. You have a good thing going. Just post up pictures of that spyder
Sounds like a sweet shooting bow. I wouldn't mess with it if you are happy with how it shoots. Every time I go to tweaking on something that is working great... I regret it.
