In the past, I have always just had my shop choose the arrow shaft for me, and never really became to involved. My current arrows have worked just fine, but the time has come up for me to buy another dozen, and I was wondering what some of you might suggest. I shoot a Mathews Switchback at 29" set at 60#. My current arrow is a 29" Gold Tip XT Hunter 5575, and I have always used a 100 grain head. Anyone see anything in this setup that I may be able to improve on?
Have you found the perfect match (tuning) between your current arrow and bow? That will tell you most everything you need to know. Unless you have a different goal (i.e. increased FOC %, heavier arrow, lighter arrow, etc.)
I shoot Gold Tips and love them! There are alot of good choices out there though, but I would see how yours are shooting before I would change. Why change if all is well.
I use to use Carbon Express arrows. I liked them while I was using them. Then I switched to Easton FMJ 340s. What a difference! I absolutely will not use anything else. They are so durable, and improve my accuracy. Yes, they aren't the cheapest arrows on the market, but you will probably actually save money in the long run. Hope this helps.
That is what I use also. Lots of KE with these heavy arrows. Pass throughs on most every animal. Tuff as nails too.
I ended up upgrading a bit and going with the Gold Tip Pro Hunters and tried out some Extreme Archery Shrink Fletch wraps. Didn't notice any difference under 30 yards, but there is a slight improvement out past 40 yards. My setup is about 350 grains and going towards the target at 260 fps.
I just got some Trophy Ridge arrows for my new set up...they have a new insert/outsert combo tip that greatly strengthens the shaft at the front end of the arrow. They have a smaller diameter and thicker shaft wall, much like the full metal jacket design, only these are carbon.
