arrow speed veus kinetic energy

    OK I'm using Beamon ICS #410 at 7.6 gpi at 28" length
    Comes out to 217 gs. If I put a 100gr broadhead on, can I assume that I'm shooting 317 total grs in relation to total weight. I'm trying to get more speed out of the bow that I'm going to buy. They always talk about fps with an arrow weight of 350, just wondering if I'm figuring this out right. Also I'm going with an arrowrest (dropaway)that will shorten my arrow around 2"'s. Would I then be shooting around 303 gr arrows or does this "really" matter, or is the speed that I will get that important in relation to the kinetic energy I will lose

    You need to add in the weight of the insert, vanes and nock. Also, kinectic energy will change very little due to arrow weight unless you make a BIG change and the change in kenetic energy technically has nothing to do with the arrow itself. It is because the bow is more efficiant at transfering energy to a heavier arrow and less efficiant with a lighter arrow.

    Also, the IBO speed is based off 5 grains per pound of draw wieght (they use a 70lb bow). I would not go lighter than that (if you do I would check to see if it will void the warrenty first). Personally, I like to use an arrow wieght of about 6 grains per pound of draw wieght. The lighter the arrow the more criticle your set up will be of any mistakes you might make. Heavier arrows are more forgiving.
