This gets posted every year, but i'm curious to see what everyone is shooting for 2010. I have always been one to preach heavier arrows, but opted to shoot a lighter arrow due to hunting conditions this year. I will be doing some open country mule deer hunts and want my margin of error to be low in yardage estimates. I dropped below my 400gr minimum and down to 378grns. I know I can get more penetration with a heavier arrow, but i'm confident my arrow will still get it done cleanly on deer or elk. Stalker Extreme 55/70, NAP Twister Vanes, and 100gr Slick Trick Mags 378grns@ 285fps What are you guys shooting?
I'm shooting carbon express piledrivers with 100gr slick trick standards. They weigh 460gr and are shooting 260fps
Easton Axis 340's at 28" tipped with 100gr. Slick Trick mags or Bloodrunners, weighing 407grains and running 291fps.
I'm shooting carbon express maxima hunter 250's, with NAP bloodrunner two blade broadheads, and bowhunting.com arrow wraps with all white 2" blazer vanes. Their perty, especially when you get blood on them!
Easton Axis 340's at 27" tipped with 100gr. NAP Crossfire's or Bloodrunners, weighing 403grains and running 308-310fps.
Just made up my first 2 arrows for this season last night: CE Terminator 4560 Selects, 100gr brass inserts, 100gr Muzzy 3 blade, 4 inch helical feathers...weighing just over 500 grains.
Shooting Carbon Express Hunter Maxima 350's with 4" feathers weighing 422 gr and probably in the range of 232 fps.
30.5 inch Beman Bowhunter 400's tipped with a 150 grain Wensel Woodsman, 50 grain insert, and 4 inch helical shield cut feathers. It weighs around 515 grains.
Carbon Express Maxima 250s with 50gr brass inserts and 100gr RazorTricks fletched with 4'' feathers (flo pink and flo green).
Well I slept on my arrow weight and I just can't do it. too light. I will be playing with some ideas today and trying to get get in the 430-450grn range.
Eaton Axis 300 @ 29.5" w/ 2" Blazers, 100 grain brass insert and 125gr. G5 Strikers. Total weight; 580 grains. (I don't dare get them near a chronograph or I'd probably puke at how slow they're going!)
29" Carbon Tech Rhino 55/80 125gr Muzzy shooting 273fps Thinking about swapping the Muzzy for Rage this year.
Ill be shooting Gold tip Xts, not sure of the broadhead yet. Its either going to be the bloodrunner two blade, grim reapers, or maybe the new thunderhead edge that i won at the gtg this year.
