I'm hoping to be able to get some arrow soon so I can finally start shooting my new bow. But I have no clue what arrows I'm even looking for. Everybody I've talked to has a different recommendation. Some say spending the extra is worth it for .001 straightness, others say I'm better off to just by some cheaper .006 if I'm not shooting in tournaments. Everyone has their favorite brand and those seem to be the best. So I'm kind of confused. I would like to get something to start shooting a target and if for some reason I don't get anything else before next hunting season have it still work for hunting. I was thinking either the Gold Tip Expeditions or Victory VForce arrows. I can't see needing .001 but if the .003 are worth the money over the .006 I'll spend the extra.
    What say you all?

My arrow choice is based on weight not brand name or straightness, go to a local bow shop and see if they sell individual arrows and experiment to see what works best for you.

We need more information from you. What bow are you shooting, draw length, draw weight, length of arrow, what weight is your field point going to be. If you want a heavy or light weight arrow. There is a lot to arrow selection.

Diamond Carbon Cure 60-70 lbs., 27 in draw currently at 60 lbs but hoping to move up a few before hunting. Not sure on field points yet, probably fixed blades, looking at the G5 Montecs in 100 or 125. I can go either way on arrow weight. I don't want to go to slow and risk hindering range, but not so light that i start breaking every other arrow.
Anyway, there's a lot of choices. Almost too many for someone starting out.

I was in your boat 3 seasons ago, I'm still learning a lot about bow setup, but I put at least 3 deer down every year. I do not do all the weighing, balancing etc that most people do (i'll try it someday). I shoot Easton Zenith (340) carbon arrows now, about $55/half dozen all set up, they come with blazer vanes. I like them, they shoot consistent with each other, usually get one that doesn't fly like the rest but I have had good luck with them so far. The Gold Tip expedition hunters (5595's I think) are also high on my list for a cheaper but reliable arrow. I also tried Blood line arrows, never really cared for them, just didn't feel comfortable with them.
As for broad heads, I started with Muzzy MX-3,tried the Montec G5 (both 100gr), I went back to the Muzzy MX-3. More of a personal preference that I like the Muzzy better. Both are good broad heads, I just think I have gotten better blood out of Muzzy, again that is my personal thoughts about them. I like being able to buy replacement blades instead of trying to re-sharping a broad head. Muzzy blades are thin and need to be replaced after hitting bone and dirt.

You'll figure out your preferences the more you shoot and get a feel for your bow setup. The above items I use work very well for me. Try the Goldtips and start form there, they get recommend more than they get credit for. Good luck bud. I am in no way an expert bow shooter, just giving you some real life un-biased info with what has worked for me. I shoot a PSE Brute X 29/70.

Thanks for all the advice guys. There's 2 shops in St. Cloud, Archery Country and Mikes Archery. Seems like the few people I've talked to are real loyal to one and hate the other. Not sure why. I have a buddy at work that goes to one every week or two, maybe I'll see if I can join him one day. I just don't want to end up being "sold" more than really need if that makes sense.

Yep you should be able to explain to him like you did here and he should make suggestions, features instead of name brands.

I called Carbon Express. They helped me figure out my arrow length and recommended the Maxima Blue Streak for my set up. I just picked up my first bow and learning as I go. Im having my arrows cut at the pro shop.

I use the Beman ICS Hunter 400 arrows as well. They don't break my bank so I feel comfortable using them at the range and in the field. I did have a issue with the one I flung at a deer though, when I hit the deer I hit some rib cage and the arrow pretty much exploded inside the the deer (found the arrow in 3 different pieces inside the deer with the part of my arrow with the fletching I found it outside the deer but the deer didn't go far), never heard of such a thing. I'm not sure if the arrow was faulty or I wasn't using a heavy enough arrow and the spine wasn't strong enough for the speed of my bow. I'm going to get it figured out this off season, but all in all I've been impressed with the Beman ICS Hunter 400 other than I don't care for the knocks they come with at the bow shop I go to (they are a cheap plastic and break just from shooting them), so I replace the knocks with the ones I like.
