I'm about to pick up an arrow saw so I can start making my own. My question is how much dust does a carbon shaft really make? Is it worth the extra expense for the dust collector model?
If you have a shop vac or home vac with a hose you can easily situation the hose to suck in the dust. I would use and old vacuum if its for the house. I use a small shop vac. once you are done you can vacuum the saw and the area so that the particles are not going everywhere. To answer your question it does not make a lot but you don't want to be inhaling it either.
I guess there's nothing to keep me from just rigging the shop vac so it picks up the dust/debris. And I save a few bucks.
I built a DIY arrow saw from a mini chop saw and proper blades. Was cheap. I make the cuts in the garage and vacuum or brush into the driveway. Very little dust. For the amount of arrows I cut, a full blown setup was not smart however, I still wanted to cut them myself. My saw does not cut perfectly square so, I always use a squaring tool after.
If you live near a Gander Mountain that's closing give them a call and ask if you can buy their arrow saw. Probably get a good price. I called the one in my town that's closing and asked if its for sale and they said "not yet".
I do. I was told August. Now it's a question of patience. Can I wait? I appreciate the suggestion. I also need to get my name in for the press.
I used a dremel and it worked just fine, get a couple saw horses to keep the shafts from bouncing around and get to cutting. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
I could draw you a sketch of what I did but unfortunately I can't post a picture of the actual setup because I did it while I was home for the summer but now I'm back on the other side of the country. Really easy setup though! Let me know if you want the sketch! Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
You know, I've got a really nice tile saw with a sliding table sitting in my shed. I don't know why it never occurred to me to use it as an arrow saw.
