I was recently given 30 arrows from a friend that’s not going to need them anymore. They are new “Gold Tip 340”, I currently shoot Victory VF TKO 400, can I shoot the GoldTips safely? They are all the same length of the Victory’s, I shoot a 55lb Hoyt.

What is your draw length and what weight points do you shoot?

Those will be stiffer but you will be safe. You might notice issues while trying to tune but I doubt it.

Yep. If you’re shouting 100 grain points then the 340s will be just a bit stiff but should be fine. It’s always better to be a little over-spined than under-spined.

If you’re shouting 125 grain points then the 340s should be perfect for your set up.

I'm a 27.5" draw length too. I shoot 400 spine arrows for 3d and target at 60 lbs. with just standard inserts and 100 grain tips, but use 340's for a hunting arrow at 65 lbs. so I can add weight. With standard inserts and a 100 grain tip I only get about 380 to 390 grains total arrow weight, so I need/want to make a heavier arrow for hunting.
My current hunting arrows are Gold Tip (GT) 340 spine in XT Hunters. I have them cut at 27" and have a standard 12 grain insert with 30 grains of F.A.C.T. weights added to them. With a heavier lighted nock they come out to be 430 grains total.

You could add some tip weight to the 340's with quite a bit of room if you wanted to make a heavier arrow setup. 50 grain or even a 100 grain insert would be fine at the length you'll cut them, I'd guess around 27" to 28", and using 55 lbs of draw weight. Won't be speedy if you make them heavier but will have more penetration and quiet your bow shot noise enough that you'll notice.

The Gold Tip FACT weights make a nice way to get your total arrow to come out where you want it. They are little weights threaded on one end so they can be screwed into the back of an insert. (Tip, use a drop of blue Loctite on them so they don't work loose). They come in 50 grain, 20 grain, 10 grain, and 5 grain sizes. I put them in before I glue the inserts in, but Gold Tip does offer a long Allen wrench so they can be put in through the nock end if inserts are already glued in.
