I know there are many Arrow threads, but I'm a small framed woman so they may not be right for me. I have the Diamond Infinite Edge, DL 22" and my DW I've been working on moving up but at the moment I'm at 30 lbs. working on getting it to 40lbs... Any recommendations are helpful :] Thanks!
I am pretty new to bow hunting, but I've done quite a bit of research. Obviously the best place to go would be a pro-shop where they will measure it for you and cut it to the proper length. From what I've read the modern standard is at least 5 grains per pound of draw weight. So at 30lbs you'd need 150 grains. If you are moving up to 40lbs though I would definitely go with that weight and get an arrow that's at least 200 grains. You've probably read that your bow has an IBO speed of such-and-such feet per second. That's with 5 grains per lb. The older standard was 9 grains per lb of draw weight (called AMO). So if your arrow is a little heavier than the exact standard, it's not going to make or break anything. As for length, it's a little more complicated. This article is a great resource: Arrow Selection Guide. It also goes into the spine (or stiffness) and other considerations, so definitely give it a read through. That's all I got. Good luck. X
Right now, It looks like your higher than a 500 spine. He is right, you can go to any pro-shop and get more knowledge than you may care to know about arrows. They make youth arrows around that spine, and I believe you can find Goldtip's with a 500 spine. Just make sure you get arrows with at least .5" extra just for growth room. And if you need a higher spine than 500, you might have to call around to see what people have.
Thanks! I went to Bass Pro (closest place to my house) a woman there helped me out with arrows and a lot of my questions. She is a small framed lady like myself and is pulling 55 lbs but her draw is 24 rather than 22 so I have hope ^__^
