I'm using Carbon Express Predator 4560 arrows, and after about 30 shots or so with an arrow, the white fletching(the other 2 are orange) begins to tear, and in one case tore completely off. I guess I can take them to the bow shop and get them to put new fletchings on the arrows, but is this normal, or is there something i'm not doing right thats causing this to happen? thanks.
What kind of rest are you using? Do you have sufficient fletch clearing past your cable? It sounds like you are having contact somewhere. As far as refletching you would be much better served to buy a fletching jig and do your own.
The rest is an octane rest that came with my bowtech package(it has a triangle of bristles). What all do I need to get started doing my own fletchings?
Hmm... It shouldnt be doing that with the octane rest. Make sure that your white vane is straight up. It should line up so there is no contact with the fletchings, Just the shaft. If you have it lined up like this then it may be your grouping. Are you shooting all your arrows at the same spot on your target? Arrows smacking arrows when you shoot may tear your fletchings.
Oh..its supposed to be straight up? I thought it was supposed to be to the side...when I put it straight up, it will clear the rest, but wont clear the cable with one of the orange ones..
if you can...knock an arrow and snap a quick picture from side view and rear view...then post on here - these guys will figure it out
Here is a picture of my rest with the proper fletching alignment. This is how yours should look. This will make it so the fletchings have no contact with the brushes.
Are you shooting 2 " vanes? The 2" vanes are taller than the 4". You may want to consider fletching one of your arrows with 4" vanes and see if that clears the cable. If it does then you could do the rest of your arrows with the 4" vanes. Just my 2 cents.
I got it fixed..I realized I can move the arrow nocks around to where it is like picture above and it clears the cables. Thanks for the help, wish i would have known this earlier..
