I just got a new setup this past offseason and am having some arrow flight issues. I'm shooting a Diamond Iceman FLX with a 62 pound draw and 28" draw length. I'm shooting Easton Axis 400 which should be correct. My issue is that my arrows are corkscrewing in flight. My first thought was hand torque was the culprit, but if that was the case wouldn't I be spraying my arrows left? All my groups are fine, but clearly my arrows not flying straight could affect penetration on a deer. Could this be an issue of fletching contact with my rest? I'm shooting a code red drop away right now. Just searching for answers right now. Sent from my SGH-I777 using Tapatalk 2
Something is definitely off if you are spiraling. 400 at 62/28 is good up to 125 grain where it begins becoming marginally soft? Centershot or nocking point are the most likely culprits... most of the time. Yes contact could cause an issue, as could rest timing but usually that comes with extra noise? Maybe have a shop recheck your initial tune, then go from there. You are doing great to ask rather than ignoring it. Once everything is close... Bare shaft tuning or paper tuning is a great next step.
Thanks. I was planning on taking it in to a shop, but I don't have one very close that I trust. Not a fan of Gander for this type of stuff. Oh well, just going to have to make the drive. Sent from my SGH-I777 using Tapatalk 2
Just got it back from the shop Friday and the arrows are flying great and grouping well. While I'm happy, the guy who worked on my bow told me something that has me scratching my head. He said to get it to tune well he had to introduce a bit of cam lean into the set up. He said he's had to do the same thing on his setup and that a little bit of cam lean can actually be beneficial. Like I said, I'm ecstatic abut how it's shooting, but this struck me as odd. Anyone have any thoughts on the issue? Sent from my SGH-I777 using Tapatalk 2
This is normal, especially with todays radical bows. What is most likely going on is the cam shifts during the shot. At static, the cam will be leaning a bit but at full draw,it will be straight or even be leaning a little in the opposite direction.
