I have been shooting Easton CarbonAeros 400's. My brother has given me some Gold Tip 5575's. Are these equivalent? I don't know what a 400 wt. is, I grew up shooting Easton XX75's and their weight and thickness was measured in 4 numbers like the Gold Tip's. Thank you for your help.
Well, I may not be the best guy to respond here, but I can give you some info. I have been learning a lot about arrows this weekend. Just going on specs, the Gold Tips probably have a spine of .400 but the grain per inch (GPI) could range from 8.2 to 9.6. You don't say which Gold Tips these are. Comparitively, it looks like most Easton with 400 in their name are also basically .400 spine. But the GPI could range from 7.4 to 10.2. It depends on the specific model of Easton. I am guessing its an Epic, in which case the GPI is listed at 8.6. With my bow, a couple of differences in grain weight makes a difference. I was shooting some Gold Tips at around 8.2 GPI, some other arrows closed to 10 GPI, and almost an inch longer. At 20 yards, they were the same, but at 30 they started to spread their groups. I'd guess different bows perform differently Anyways, probably a bunch of other guys smarter than me can give you more of the science on here but hope some of these stats help.
This is a pretty good chart that I have been referencing lately. There are some other pretty good links in the top right for more info/education. http://www.huntersfriend.com/carbon_arrows/hunting_arrows_main_custom_all_specifications.htm
