I have decided that next year I want to build my own arrows. What are all the things that I need. I have bohning tower fletch but I think I will upgrade that because it just doesn't work very well with certain vanes. I have had good luck with it on Blazers and 4" Duravanes but there is something about Fusions that just doesn't bode well for this fletcher. Any suggestions? I'm basically looking for a laundry list of supplies and equipment needed. Any tips or tricks would be nice as well.I know its probably a little early to be thinking of next year but I want to try and spread the cost out and be ready to go start experimenting and shooting when the weather permits usually around March.
I would highly suggest the Jojan multi Fletcher. I've had the Arizona e-z Fletcher and the Bitzenburger, both are good jigs ..Bitzenburger is one of the best, for time and easy setup ..one arrow at a time just didn't work for me. Back to the fusion versus the blazer in bonding ...each jig has to be set up for each style of fletch..size, shape, length ..it's not one jig fits all..if they still aren't bonding right, it must be a cleaning issue ..if they are new in the pack, I've never had an issue, if bought from a bulk bin..they need to be cleaned I clean with plain old charcoal lighter fluid, there are some good products out there but none work as good or are as cheap ..and remember clean right before you intend to do the work, if you get side tracked ..clean again Back to the Fletcher, if you intend on Fletching multiple sizes and shapes, just mark your jig with a Sharpie..REMEMBER, IN MAKING ARROWS CONSISTENCY IS EVERYTHING Sent from my DROID X2
Thats just the thing with this jig. It is a one size fits all type of jig. Its really just a beginner jig. It works like a arizona EZ fletch just has a base to it so theres not really any adjustment to it. About the only adjustment is to push the holder that holds the arms up down further for more pressure on the vanes. The fusion vanes are new in pack and I cleaned the shafts with comet and a scotch bright pad, rinsed, then air dried. Always worked great with the blazers. When I take the arrows fletched with fusions out it looks like the glue didn't spread out across contact part of the fletching. Leading me to believe it is a jig issue which really wouldn't surprise given the nature of the jig. I even used what would normally be way to much glue and still had the issue. If I would have used that amount of glue on the blazers I would have had gobs of glue coming out the sides. Not really looking to be using a lot of different vanes. Just was going to switch to the fusions because of the great things about adhesion and durability that I have read. The duravanes I fletched were for a friend and I had no issues with them.
There is definitely a certain amount of adjustment that needs to be made..even though slight in some situations. I also fletch alot of my buddies arrows ..all for free and for fun. I have two jojans, one adjusted for right wing 4" feathers, the other for blazers with about 4° offset ..I never touch the feather jig (it was a pain to get just right) the other I will adjust for something new, if I can't convince them to shoot blazers..then like I said, I have my jig marked so I can go back to my baseline. I think you will be happy with the jojan, just need to decide between the three options, right, left, straight. the base jigs are all the same, just the clamps are different, but for the price of 3-4 new clamps you can buy new the total package ...that's how I ended up with two
