I am in the market for some new arrows. I have basically narrowed it down to Gold Tip Pro Hunters or Easton Axis. I was wondering if any of you have experience with these and can answer how they would do. Also, i am wondering about fletching these with 4 2" Blazer Vanes at 90* with a helical. Has any of you shoot 4 vanes rather than 3? I assume this would slow down arrow speed because of the extra drag, but it would stabilize it more. Thank you.
4 vanes will stabilize your arrow more, but how much I cannot say. I think the speed loss will be minimal with 4 vanes . I use blazers, but only 3 with helical I shoot gold tip arrows xt, and velocity xt and think they are great arrows. I think you would be happy with either arrows.
Im leaning more towards the Gold Tip Pro's because smaller weight tolerance and not having to use broadhead adapter rings. But, i have heard the Axis is a strong arrow.
Haven't tried four vanes in years, when we did it was with an offset of 2 degrease, no helical and it was on larger diameter aluminum shafts. You might run into a problem fitting 4 vanes bases on such a small diameter shaft like an axis...not sure without trying. Give it a shot and let us know...
Why do you think you need 4 fletch? Is it for looks or are you expecting issues? It really shouldn't be needed. I love Axis arrows and highly recommend them. Easton has been at the top since they invented aluminum arrows and their arrows are second to none. Especially their component systems. Plus they are American made. ^what he said^ Easton arrows are tough and the hit hard. I have been using them ever since I started bowhunting and I have been using Easton Axis for a few years now. . I have tried others, but I always keep Easton arrows on hand.
One of my son's shoots Gold tips, I shoot Easton (not Axis) with one of my bows, no problems with either. Likewise I haven't shot 4 vane/fletch in a long time. Two questions: Why 4 vane over 3? Which rest are you planning on using?
You don't need 4 fletch for them. Just be sure to have a good amount of helical. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using Tapatalk
I am shooting Gold tip pro hunters also, 400 spine, my broadheads are also Slick Trick 100 grain vipertricks. I use a Bitzenberg and fletch 3 vane, right helical clamp. 2" blazers. They fly like darts, You shouldn't need 4 vanes. I also practice with Gold Tip Devastators,(refletched), they are inexpensive and fly they same as the Pro's.
I've shot both 3 and 4 to see what the difference really was. All were blazers on the same Easton Flatline shafts. They are pretty light so the results may vary but, I would imagine similar. I also shot an apache rest during this time. I did fletch them straight so an offset may yield different results also. No issues with the rest at all shooting 4. The four fletchings arrows seemed to group slightly better. Not much but, they did. At 20 yards there was a 1-1.5" drop. At 30 yards 2-2.5" drop. At 40 yards 4-4.5" drop. At 50 yards 6-7" drop. At 70 yards it was nearly 12". This drop was in comparison to the 3 vane arrows. I honestly did not see the benefit of fletching with 4 vanes over 3. A friend of mine did the same test and the results were similar. His arrows were slightly heavier. I think .5gpi or so.
I use GT Velocity Pro and Easton Axis (along with some ACC). I would recommend both. I think the Axis is tougher. I have never used the BH adapter rings on any Axis arrows. I must have 3-4 dozen and been using them for many years. I tried a lot of vanes. I recommend 3 Flex-Fletch FFP 360. With that said nothing will steer your BH better than Tru-Flight feathers.
