Everyone have targets? Are your bows tuned and setup? I'm really looking forward to seeing each of you participate and get better at this! If any of you have any questions or want any advice on either shooting technique or equipment, feel free to either post up or PM me in private. Most importantly, let's remember to have fun!
I don't know if I'll ever be ready. :D I shot for the 1st time since the season ended last night just to see how my new arrows w/the Fusion vanes are flying with field points. So far, so good. Although every time I look at the target the X ring seems to get a little smaller. I also have a Hostage Pro rest on the way as I'll be switching over before the hunting season starts. I'll probably run the course of the spots league with the SmartRest dropaway I have now, and switch once that's over. I'm going back to full containment for hunting purposes. Anywho - let's do it!
I'm not ready. haha I'm using this league to back into shooting for the year and re condition. I have my targets and arrows ready to go but I'm not sure about the mental part.:d
Matt- You mean shooting a 45 target 3d shoot in the teens wasn't enough mental preparation? I'm ready, but need to go shoot some practice rounds before we get this thing rolling.
Got my targets today! I was kind of hoping that the 10 ring had a little more girth to it Oh well, I guess I'll just have to hone my skills. Thanks for the hat Justin, way cool!
I shot a 151 (20 shots) at techno hunt last week for the first score for the league. I actually didn't shoot one scene because I didn't like the shot angle and then the scene closed. So that score was really for 19 shots, 151 is pretty darn good for me. I think I shot the 3rd or 4th highest score of all the shooters. This was with the new bow that I hadn't shot until that day. Then I found out this score sets our handicap. anyhow... I did buy some 3 spot targets while I was there. Didn't shoot at them yet because spots are bad for my delicate self-esteem. But.. I'll try sighting my bow in a little more and then I guess I'm ready. I may buy some big fat shafts for this. I need all the help I can get. (do they make wimpy spined fat shafts?)
Christine - There are a lot of shafts out there that will be fatter than a normal shaft, that will still fly well for you. I'd recommend an Easton 2712 depending on your arrow rest. You need to make sure if your using a biscuit or self containment rest that it will fit in there. You may also want a Hick's 3D cable slide to give you a little more clearance with the fatter shaft. If you go this direction let me know I'll mail you the right cable slide so that it all works for you, I've got a bag of spares. At your DL and DW, I'd cut it so that it's only 1/2" in front of your arrow rest, put a 300 grain target point in it, and then put 4" feathers on the back. They will fly like darts. Actually they will fly like logs at your 35lbs (IIRC) and DL, you might be able to eat a sandwich between when you release and when it hits........but if you do the same thing everytime so will they. :d I'm sure Justin can also get these for you through the online shop.
Matt, My new bow is somewhere around 45 lbs.. ? It feels lighter in draw wght. than my other equalizer (43lbs) but it spits the same arrow about 10 fps faster. Maybe the '08 is that much better than the '06?? Anyhow, I'm also using a QAD drop away rest. That will still work right? Thanks.
Yep, it should work well with the QAD. I'd still use the same arrow combo despite the weight difference.
I shot my first practice 300 vegas for the season. It was a little rough. I shot 267 with only 2x. I was hoping for a mid 270s, but i still have time to get another round or two in before scores are due. I can tell i havent shot that consecutive in a while. I walked out mentally tired and a little sore. I might have to drop the poundage a bit, but then i have to resight it in. hmmmm.
