It is pretty much incomprehensible to many Christians that we Orientals can consider other religions as right along with our own. Your religion isn't wrong because I believe mine is right. We watch Korean and Japanese movies and series from Netflix. In one we watched recently, one of the characters, during a crisis, prayed to "Jesus, Buddha, and St. Mary." There are almost no Christians in Japan, but about 17% of Koreans are listed as Christian. But my husband who spent some time in Korea, says it's not unusual to find a household with a shrine to Buddha and Jesus. American Christians I've encountered cannot comprehend that. I don't understand why they can't.
So god was the reason the book was rewritten a few dozen times by ambitious men ...just like the guy here that is a heretic ?
My point is not that one religion needs to be considered as right or that all of them need to be considered as right. The point is that there is absolutely no way to prove that any single religion is based on actual facts and can be proven as truth. There is no way to prove that Christianity, Hinduism, Buddhism, Islamic or any other religion is based on truth. They all have the common denominator of needing faith, believing in something larger that what we can see. You believe in your religion, but you do not know "absolutely" that it is real. You take it on faith.
No I didn't. Don't try to twist what I said. Joel osteen is the epitome of a wolf in sheep's clothing. The apostles he says are wrong that wrote much if the new testament were alive when Jesus was on earth. Some even knew him personally. The gospels are first hand accounts written by the men who witnessed what took place. They were not ambitious men as you called them. The ambitious men are the clergy that has since rewritten the original texts and perverted the meaning of the scriptures. Those are men like osteen. They were inspired by nothing but power and greed. The original writers were not
It's an interesting conversation. But it's our eighth anniversary and we have to be off to a celebration with family and friends.
Right up until the end of World War II Christians in Japan were persecuted. The Japanese leaders took this persecution to Korea and China as well. A fumi-e (image of Christ) was placed on the ground and people were expected to trample it. Anyone who didn't was marked as a believer and sent off for conversion, torture and sometimes death. That Christianity somehow kept a toehold in Japan under such oppression is a miracle. After all, who needs Jesus when the Emperor is considered a living god?
Good point. There are Christian missionaries in China now that operate in secrecy because their work is banned. There are hundreds of Christians in prison in south Korea right now for refusing to renounce their faith. Same with places like myanmar & pakistan. Those Christians still believe strongly enough to endure persecution without compromising their faith.
Tony learned a long time ago to not argue faith issues. He is always willing to talk to folks about it and often does when they would like. His conversations are usually via phone or PM and not in public as little foxes nip at the vine too often trying to cause confusion. Tony is at much peace as he prays to the Lord to open doors in the hearts of others and to be allowed to help show them Christ.
This is what is fundamentally wrong with religion. Persecution of ones believes, forcing beliefs on others and all the death that has surrounded peoples beliefs in their god with all war it's a little sickening if you ask me. Just think about it all the death just in the middle East over something intangible it's beyond me.
Well then at least respond to post #25 and have a little fun. I cherry picked you for that shot. Don't let it go to waste.
