TJF, I have more nightmares when I have slept on my back as well. I have ultra hearing and wake up if any noise erupts anywhere in the house. I hate it. Finch, I NEED to get better sleep. I have been hurting for a few years now and it is wearing on me. NY, I go through periods of time where I wake up wide awake in the middle of the night and cannot sleep again for 30-60 minutes. I hate it. Then for months I am cool. Then for a week or two suck sleep. ughhhh I am moving to the floor tonight and try to sleep on my back. I am hoping the firmness of the floor will help me stay at ease a bit. This crap is getting old.
never was able to sleep on my back until about a year ago, I don't know what changed my sleeping habits.
I could not sleep on my back until I had back surgery and was forced to lay in a hospital for several days and sleep on my back. Now sleeping on my back is normal and comfortable. On my side, no problem. On my stomach, NO WAY.. kills my back.
Brett I actually had to sleep on the floor the other night too. I almost think sleeping on your stomach would feel better if sleeping on a hard surface. I would think it would keep your back straight since you wouldn't get that sag if using a mattress. Could be wrong though. I wonder how those sleep number beds are?
Look, just drink a lot, lay down and sleep. If you fall on you tummy.... well your back will hurt in the morning. Side is good, I prefer the left. Flat on my back....I snore more and I end up on my side. LOL I can sleep anywhere I chose to. After you've spent a couple years sleeping in a jungle hammock, or on ammo cans, or in a hole half full of water.... well hell, the rest is gravy. I really don't have a problem with any bed, any hotel/motel bed, sofa, chair or whatever. When it's time.... I go to sleep.
I always end up on my stomach in the middle of the night, with my arms above my head under the pillow.....which I wake up with literally numb arms they are so asleep. LOL can't move them for like 5 minutes when that happens. I could never sleep on my back until my 2 week trip camping in Alaska in a mummy sleeping bag. I was nervous to sleep on my side (afraid it'd slip down over my face and I'm semi claustrophobic to begin) so I was forced to sleep on my back....ever since I have been able to just fine.
For sure, bouncing around in an APC on top of a couple hundred pounds of C4, Bangalore torpedos, Claymores, Shape and Cratering Charges. I learned I can sleep about anywhere in any position when I get tired enough.
The last three nights I have forced myself to sleep on the floor for a firmer surface. Slept a bit on my side and my back to begin the night. I am going to keep at it until my body gets used to it. BUT, I always end back up on my stomach. My back is already feeling a bit better from the 1-2 hours I am sleeping on my back and side. Like Tembry and others said, I just have to get used to it.
I sleep on the floor on my back a lot. It really seems to help when my back is hurting me. Sounds like maybe you should invest in some ratchet straps and strap yourself down so you don't turn over on your stomach.
NY, I cannot tell you how annoying it is to have interrupted sleep. I am sick of it. I am making some real changes toward my back health. Firmer mattress/floor, exercises, stretching, inversion. I am taking charge. I for some reason believe over the years certain parts of my back have tightened up leading to a muscular imbalance. I am on the road to changing that through exercise and the like. Other than my back hurting off and on I am perfectly healthy for my age.
