While field dressing my doe this AM, I noticed she already had a thick layer of fat. Past years I haven't seen this thick of fat on a deer this early. Do the deer know something we haven't figured out yet?
north west illinois and the doe i shot friday also had a larger than normal layer of fat makes me wonder also
The word I have been hearing is that this winter will be kind of mild, but with a lot more snow than usual
According to the Farmer's Almanac, we are supposed to have a cooler than average winter pretty much throughout the entire country. It's been in the low 50s here in the mornings. That's almost unheard of for this time of year in South Carolina.
I agree, we butchered our 3 deer the other day and one of the does was REALLY fatty (for this time of year), My buddy's young buck and the other doe were pretty lean. The Farmer's Almanac is the way to go ..
it was 12 degrees, i chit you not on the mountain this am when I got out of my dodge.. hey congrats on the doe too! They keep trying to convince us Northern Idahoans we arent getting a 100 inches of snow this year, I will believe when I see it..
