Hi all, new to the site and to hunting in general. I've decided that I would like to start bow hunting and I've read about everyone using tree stands. I will probably start hunting on public land so I'm not sure if I can use one or not. Can you be successfull without one?

    Thanks in advance

    Yep...

You sure can. I hunt from a ground blind and a Tree Saddle ( http://www.trophylineusa.com/ ) and have killed deer from both. You can also still hunt, which I find to be a little challenging but it does work.

Each type of hunting may work better for a different type of terrain and weather.

Yes you can be successful from the ground, but you can also use a portable climber on public land with no worries. You take it in and out each time you hunt.

Madhunter is right about the tree saddle. I don't use one but I know they are effective. I like a good climber for public land. I hunt out of a Lone Wolf Hand Climber. Very light and easy to carry. I believe it is even more comfortable then the sit and climb by Lone Wolf. One of the benefits of a lightweight climber is getting is bring in and out with you each time. Other hunters can't hunt out of your stand or know where your hunting. Also, I believe it is the safest type of stand if used properly because you can be hooked in your harness from the moment you step on the stand. I believe most guys that use hang ons on a regular basis don't clip into their safety harness till their at the top. A guy is going to fall getting in and out, not at the top.

You can definately hunt from the ground but I prefer being perched in a tree. Good luck with your new hobby, hope you get hooked.
