Like I said debatable, lol. Many many years ago when I was a teenager I shot a compound that was like 40lbs and I shot logs..... yeah didn't find the arrows often and killed a few deer BUT I prefer the forgiving nature of a flat fast arrow when it comes to range/distance. This new bunch of arrows I have comes in at 400ish and I think that is a pretty good combination.

5 grains per inch on a tuned bow and a sharp broadhead like a grim reaper razor tip will kill any animal in N. America with a well placed shot.

As 5gr/pound is the limmit of not being a dry-fire, does that not mean you are putting your bow and string under way more stress than a heavy arrow?

This is absolutely correct. I would venture to guess you are at least 6'4 with that draw length, if you are not, may want to have someone qualified check your draw length. Also, as stated here, for the long draw length and long length of your arrows the 300's are the better choice.

I'm actually 6'2" with monkey arms. When I bought my bow a couple years ago I told the guy I draw around 31" and looked at me and said "let's measure this" - they had a spot on the wall had me reach out with my arms and the guy had the whoa look on his face. He recommended I drop a 1/2" off but I have been shooting so long (at that draw) that nothing feels right unless I hit my anchor point. Other fun facts - large shirts fit me well in the chest but are always 2 or so inches too short in the sleeve and X Large shirts fit better if they don't shrink but fit terrible in the chest.....
