Not lucky You have a bow out of tune which is really bad on impact especially with an expandables. What is the common complaint on the Cabelas reviews with expandables? Poor penetration, deflection on bone, ect. Expandables are popular because guys have no clue or ambition to tune a bow which translates to a rodeo with bloodtrails and effective kills.
Both deer I have shot with killzones (& the other 10+ I have shot with muzzy's have all been pass throughs so it must be somewhat in tune? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk - now Free
Auto correct makes spline instead of spine and as for being a hack don't be so nice to people you don't know!
Auto correct on my phone puts spline in instead of spine or I misspelled but no need to be a wise guy
I should have been more general, I have witnessed many unqualified guys behind pro shop counters who's only qualification was an ability to fog a mirror.
Funny.....my slicks shoot out to 45 yards just fine.....I need to re-check my range finder because obviously I'm not shooting over 20 yards.... I believe when guys have a properly tuned bow the next biggest problem which guys refuse to acknowledge is terrible arrow selection...even pro-shops these days are known for pushing just the fastest set up...makes sense because un-knowing guys buy "sex" uh I mean "speed". Speed sells in the bowhunting world, just like sex in the entertainment world. So guys use too light of arrows so they can shoot at blazing speeds but the stability of the arrow in flight with their set up is terrible....I mean shoot I think some guys' are shooting basically to an extreme a flimsy noodle downrange wobbling the entire time. They then complain about how their not grouping the best but at 60 yards they're accurate enough...shoot a deer only to have bad entrance angle and to top it off their light arrow now has minimal penetration ability by shear science limitation due to it's weight....okay sorry I'm done....gotta go check my range finder like I said.
Regardless of weight, proper spine is proper spine. We all have to assume the guy CAN group Fp's. I will say grouping FB's over 310fps can be an issue but very few guys shoot hunting setups over 310fps.
Your right 100% there are guys who fog mirrors but those guys usually don't stay in business long no hard feelings tho
While your checking your range finder open 5 packs if your favorite broadhead and see if they all fly the same they def will not since most broadheads are mass produced I'm very happy your accurate to 45 yards dude that's hard work it don't just happen without practice and all I've been trying to say is it doesn't matter what kind of bh you like you gotta be prepared like you obviously are
For sure, I agree, I had 9 slicks for trial and error and narrowed it down to 5 heads I feel comfortable using for hunting. Honestly though I may have been lucky but I was still grouping quite good with all 9 (well 8, one had thread issues) right away to where most guys would be okay with in the field and I still use them as practice heads...but I gear that ability to shoot them accurately as a bigger testament to my arrow set up and bow tune (thanks to a very competent pro-shop). You did pin the tail on the "donkey" though with the prepared statement...something nearly every failed deer harvest boils back down to at some point.
Correct. here's my latest "pro" shop nitemare. Falls archery in the burbs of Milwaukee(now out of business, shocking) cut a dozen expensive arrows for my 18 yo nephew last year, he could not get them to group with his z7 beyond 20 yards and especially muzzy bh's. Repeated bow shop trips told him his form was off and pushed private lessons! This kid has over 50 bow kills filmed. I asked him to read me the carbon express arrow model and the dufus read the arrow chart wrong then refused to admit his mistake. It took me 20 minutes on the phone from California for this guy to eat his arrows.
Everyone makes mistakes due to being nervous but the best tool in the woods over arrows broadheads sights etc.. Is confidence and only way to obtain that is practicing with you setup, if your comfy with the shot then your more likely to make that great kill shot! I ask most of my customers no matter how much money they have or how new there setup is are you confident enough to make that kill shot??? Bowhunters get bad advertisement because of those people who spend the money but don't respect the sport enough to spend the time! I'm not saying shoot everyday until season starts but if you have the time why not or as much as possible because having the confidence is almost as hard as getting up close and personell with that wall hanger! I'm not saying I'm most or best bow tech around I'm saying I've been doing it for 14 years competing with the big chains (cabelas, gander mountain) and it's my full time job not just my hobby so if I don't care enough to setup bows right then big guys would of killed my business! If all who bow hunts took the time you and I did to make 45 yard shots confidently then life would be grand!
Disclaimer...while I practice routinely to that...I have self appointed 35 yard max shot in the woods. Hope to gain the no doubt confidence in the field next year for 40 or 45. Again though like you said, it's practice and preparing which will let me know if and when I'll do that.
