[/iwhere i hunt i would take the ground everytime.unless i am out west in wide open spaces then i have no choice.i like to stalk an still hunt in the forest . there is nothing like a 175 inch monster standing 15 yards infront of me broadside looking the other way. get in atree and you might see more deer . but the ground and no blind is for real hunters.and the rush of the upclose eyeball to eyeball thing is unparralled.man up and hit the dirt!!!!lets see how good you really are!!!

well i understand its all about where you live . i hunt hardwoods therefore there are many trees to conceal ones self . someone told me long ago that there is camoflauge then there is concealment or hiding if you will . i prefer hiding the trick is to still be a letahal bambi wacker an stay hid, that there in is the trick.

i find it a much more rewarding harvest when i score on a stalk. rather than sitting waiting for a big ol buck to maybe walk my way. you know what i mean i went out "hunting" an i got him that kind of thing.

I would love to see some pics of these 175 inchers you have stalked. :deer:

I hunt from tree stands so I guess I'm not a "real hunter". :bash:

I have not killed from the ground yet. This is the first year that I will be trying though. I have one key spot that I will be blind hunting, other than that I will be in the trees.

Skippy, how many times do you get busted on the ground? I hunt w/o a blind alot and get busted ALOT. Of course those 175's are somewhat on the dumb side. Everyone knows REAL hunters hold out for the 200 inchers. :D

Oh man... I seen the choices in the poll were highlighted. Since it showed the number of people that voted for each choice I thought I already voted. So I clicked on one thinking maybe it might show something like who voted for what, but that was a vote and it wasn't what I would have intentionally voted for (ground, no blind).:bash: :bash: :bash: I knew I should have went to bed.

Oh well, I guess sometimes you just have to laugh at yourself.

I hear ya Josh. I'm gonna sit in one spot and hunt with a 22 this year. A rock weighing that many pounds should smash em good from 20 feet over head, eh? MY thinking is a 30 pounder will tenderize them too much.

I've killed 2 8pts from the ground, bow hunting. In both cases I didn't use a blind, just natural cover.

Although they were slightly under the 175" mark. ;)

I don't get it, I don't get the difference from the tree vs the ground. Neither is harder or easier from my point of view.
I hunt the terrain as I see fit, I don't take any more satisfaction from one method to the other.

The goal going in, was to get a Buck, either method, if successful worked out as planned.

    I agree GR8,

There's a time and a place for everything. A Gr8 hunter pays attention to detail and adapts. Spot and stalking hunting in Jeff's environment, for example, would be nearly impossible after the trees have lost thier leaves-although, I think you could accomplish the task prior to this event. In the west (the mountains in particular), a tree stand will net you a lot of hours sitting on your duff. Yeah, the statisfaction comes when your "plan" is complete manipulated-goal achieved.

Well said Will!! The type of woods/terrain speaks volumes In how one hunts or pretty much has no choice to hunt. I tip my hat to the bow hunters who choose to hunt from the ground hunting whitetails, It's not easily done.

    Well done Bob!!

I think ground hunting is the route I am slowly taking. I truly enjoy stalking. I also like using the natural environment. The only problem I have is the deer I hunt are extremely sensitive and are on alert at all times. I need the tree stand to gain an advantage. That being said, I have killed a few deer from the ground using the landscape and natural cover and I enjoy it very much. I remember shooting a 6 or an 8 pointer one year from the ground at about 6-7 yards! The only problem is I made a bad hit due to my inexperience and haste to recover the deer..I never found him even after searching for 2 days.

Hunt from the tree, wouldn't mind hunting out of a ground blind though. That time will come.
