Heres another debate for you guys....... So i try and buy a AR lower reciever today and you have to be 21 years old (im 19), But i can buy the fully built AR 15 sitting on the shelf with no hassle. How in gods name does this make any sense????
It is because you can build that lower into an AR pistol. As you know you must be 21 to purchase a pistol. If you buy it off the shelf it is in the rifle form.
Kinda like around here. If you buy 22 LR and tell them it's for use in a rifle you can buy them under 21. But if you say they are for use in a pistol, you have to be 21. DUUUUUH!! And they think we need more gun laws.
So what kind of optics do y'all have on your AR's?. I'm looking to find a low magnification variable power scope, but most options seem to be shotgun scopes. Any other options out there? Trying to stay away from electronics.
Good luck finding any AR parts or fully built recently. The shop here in town had guys lined up for them today. They sold the 30 they just got in in less than a day. The dealer said he couldn't find any in the state. Crazy!
What does your friend do for a living, he must spend a ****load on ammo! Hopefully the Gas Piston never fails or he gets bored and wants to start replacing parts in the gun, most of their stuff is proprietary and overly expensive. Then again he can afford tens of thousands in ammo so no biggie right?
I've got a Nikon P223 3-9 scope and have had good luck with it. It's good quality and you don't haveta spend 200 or much over. I'm sure a lot of ppl will say leopold or even some of the other big names for scopes but like I said why spend 350-500 unless your gonna be shooting distances a lot then go ahead spend the money. As far as red dots the good ones are eo tech and aimpoint but again if your wanted any magnification your gonna be looking at 6-800 for the red dot and 3x magnifier. Or you could go all out and trijicon agog and drop 8-1600. Again thats the ones I lookedat and I beat my rifle up so didn't wanna drop a lot on optic that I don't really need. All depends on what you want your rifle to do.
If I were going to be spending big $$$ on a top end out of the box AR it would likely be a Larue Tactical. I'm running a Leupold Mark AR 3-9x40 with a mil dot reticle on the .223 upper I call for yotes with. On my 6.8 SPC I'm running a Leupold VX3 1.75-6x32 with a heavy duplex reticle. If I were looking for a budget scope I'd likely be still be looking at Leupold but would find a used one. Their warranty is so good that they don't care if you bought used, they still fix it. Plus they are made in the USA. I like better glass because at night they do collect more light, and both of these rifles get used at night. Also if you learn to dial for windage/elevation you have a scope that's actually repeatable. I don't know if anyone here has tried to dial with even a top end Nikon but good luck with getting it back to zero or even an accurate MOA adjustment. You can find some outstanding deals on demo scopes on www.samplelist.com. Right now they have that same Mark AR 3-9x40 that I have for $259 and you can pick what reticle you want.
Awesome, that rocks. Unfortunately Simon is looking for an affordable platform and not an overpriced proprietary weapon modeled after a military version. Do you have any insight on how he can build a gun for under $1,000?
I have this scope. It's huge and not a fancy brand. But it does what it needs to and it's inexpensive. Haven't lost zero yet and I'm not the least bit nice to it. http://www.midwayusa.com/product/74...mm-adjustable-objective-truplex-reticle-matte (I got mine for 90.00 with a rebate. Neener... neener. )
I was lucky enough to find basically what I was looking for on Monday. The guy had sold all but 3 and had this one left. It's a DPMS Bull 20 w. an adjustable buttstock. I was pretty lucky, he told me he was just about to raise the price before I came in. I think I got a pretty good deal. I gave $785 for it. MSRP is $969 w/ the standard buttstock.
I was just at wally world and they had a sig sauer rm400 in 223 for $897.00. That was there last one. They are out of bushmaster and colt ar-15's.
The M&P lower is a good start for a cheep, yet reliable build. I would look at Nightfource for my optics, I would also put a green laser on it for close quarters.
Good luck finding any of that at the local gun shop, I just ordered a bunch of p mags before they get sold out as well.
