I was going to chime in and let you know that here in MN during rifle/late season my phone dies incredibly quickly. I didn't say anything because I was afraid of being attacked by the people who don't use their phone while hunting
There certainly are people in here touting that they don't use their phones while hunting and because of that, think they are on some kind of pedestal. To me that is hilarious. Think of their posts as a Minnesota Nice way of saying what I posted. Triggered? Hardly. Get off the computer/phone and stop being so connected.
To answer your question. I dont have an apple watch but I do have the Suunto Traverse Alpha and love it. It can take a butt kicking! Battery last about week and a half if you dont use GPS. One day, if you use GPS the whole day. It provides text messages, phone calls. Tells you sunrise/sunset, GPS, Altimeter, thermometer, the list goes on an on. It was made specifically for the outdoorsman. I've had it for a year now and am very happy with it.
I am really interested in this watch. Is there anything you don't like about it? How accurate is the compass? What phone are you using wit it?
I'm so "unconnected" I don't tell anyone when I go hunting, or when they should expect me back. The only thing I tell them is how to contact me should they need me while hunting, and the answer is simply, don't. #Unconnected Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
On a real note my fiancé just bought an Apple Watch and loves it. She doesn't hunt so it doesn't really pertain to the OP but she has showed me all that it can do and said it is really convenient at work with her being an RN to quickly respond should I call or text her without her having to pull out her phone. My point is you walk into a place and see 6 people at a table all staring at their phones texting and replying it is weak sauce good god step away and ignore the pacifier and leave it alone and be self reliant and enjoy the woods just try 1 hunt without the phone.
Anything could happen and I guess if bleeding out somewhere I'd just as soon someone has a slight idea where I'm at or about when I should be home. Not sure what's so wrong about that. A phone doesn't even need to be involved in that if that really bothers some of you the way it apparently does for some reason. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
Well to answer the OP's question.... I just got an Apple Watch for Christmas and this turkey season is the first time I've hunted with it. It's actually come in very handy. One morning after being in the blind for about 2 hours, I wanted to get something from the truck I forgot. Ran to the truck real quick and as luck would have it, just as I was coming back, I got a text from my partner saying the birds were coming and he could see them. I told him cool, I'm staying put so I don't blow it. 5 minutes later bang, he drops his first bird ever. Had I not had my watch, I wouldn't have felt my phone vibrate in my pocket and possibly blown the whole deal for him. The only drawback to the watch is responding to a text. There are some "canned" responses you can tap, you can write one letter at a time with your finger or you can talk to it. Speaking softly is a little tricky though so the watch hears you correctly and then translates it correctly. But if you just need to do something to see a quick message, honestly it's very handy. Just remember to put on the "do not disturb" feature or you'll get a ding for every notification. Otherwise I really like the watch for everyday use too. Tracks all the steps I take the fitness stuff, quick sports alerts and things like that. Battery life is great. Weather is right there for you to look at too if that is a concern while you're in the stand. Hope you enjoy it if you get one.
