As some of you know my father has Alzheimer's, when I was at the property last week I could not help but notice that the Crabapple trees that dad and I planted about 15 years ago where in full bloom. I had been playing with the idea of planting some deer candy apple trees. I guess that sealed it I bought 5 of the trees I wanted. My wife and son joined me and we went to pick up dad. He was very happy to get out of the house and he was excited to help. The pictures show him helping and digging the holes for the trees, he and Matt getting the tree ready, adding black dirt, adding dry cow manure, then covering with mulch to help curb weeds and then a pic of the fencing around them to help keep the deer from over browsing. I think this will help Matt remember his Grandpa in the future when he sees the trees. He and dad have always been very close, I was impressed Matt helped his Grandpa every step of the way. I included some pics.
So very cool. This really hit home as I lost both of my grandfathers to Alzheimer's. Such a terrible disease, but what you're doing will let your son remember the GOOD times with his grandfather.
That's wonderful! I pray the Lord blesses those tree! I once read a ancient proverb it said "A wise old man plants tree's under who's shade he will never sit!" making memories between the generations that will impact generations to come! That is what Life and deer hunting is all about! Blessings!
Good stuff! My Grandpa had crabapples all the way up either side of his 300 yd long driveway. I still think of him every time I see one.
Good on you for getting your dad out of the house and giving your son a great memory to have of his grandpa.
Thanks for the very kind words guys. Dads illness is not something I talk about very often. When I do type about it, for whatever reason I feel better. I will up date you as things progress. Thanks again. Dean
